Purchase Engineer

Key Responsibilities:Vendor Development & Management Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers for raw materials, components, consumables, and services. Conduct vendor audits for quality systems, capability, and capacity. Maintain approved vendor list and ensure supplier compliance with company requirements. Build long-term relationships with strategic suppliers. Procurement & Negotiation Prepare and float RFQs (Request for Quotation) to suppliers. Analyze quotations and conduct cost negotiations to achieve best price without compromising quality. Ensure timely issuance of purchase orders and delivery follow-up. Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, cost, and delivery. Cost Control & Value Engineering Support cost reduction initiatives through alternate sourcing, localization, and process improvements. Benchmark prices, track market trends, and suggest opportunities for savings. Coordination & Documentation Coordinate with design, production, quality, and stores teams for procurement requirements. Ensure timely procurement of critical parts to avoid production delays. Maintain procurement records, supplier contracts, and compliance documents. Resolve supplier-related issues (rejections, delays, disputes). Compliance & Systems Ensure compliance with ISO, GMP, or regulatory requirements (as applicable to industry). Work with ERP/MRP systems for procurement transactions and reporting. Key Skills & Competencies:Strong negotiation and vendor management skills. Knowledge of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain. Cost analysis and sourcing expertise. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with ERP/MRP systems. Problem-solving and decision-making ability. Qualifications & Experience:B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering (preferred). 2–6 years of experience in purchase/vendor development in a manufacturing setup. Experience in [specific industry, e.g., Medical Devices / Automotive / Plastics] will be an added advantage.
