Job Summary:

The Project Manager (PM) in the EMS industry is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing customer projects from initial quotation through mass production and delivery. This role serves as the primary interface between customers and internal cross-functional teams, ensuring that projects meet cost, quality, delivery, and performance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead end-to-end project management for new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing manufacturing programs.
  • Create and manage project plans, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Facilitate design reviews, DFM/DFT analysis, and risk assessments with engineering teams.
  • Coordinate prototype builds, pilot runs, and mass production readiness.

2. Customer Communication & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary customer contact for all project-related activities.
  • Provide regular project updates, status reports, and presentations.
  • Manage customer expectations and address any project changes or escalations.
  • Support customer audits, business reviews, and technical discussions.

3. Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, procurement, quality, production, and finance teams to ensure smooth execution.
  • Ensure BOM readiness, material availability, and sourcing alignment.
  • Lead internal meetings to track progress and resolve issues impacting cost, quality, or delivery.

4. Cost & Budget Management

  • Work with cost engineering and procurement to prepare quotations and pricing.
  • Monitor project budgets, cost changes, and profitability.
  • Evaluate engineering change orders (ECOs) for feasibility, cost, and timeline impact.

5. Risk Management & Problem Solving

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for project-related problems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and internal processes.

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate project documentation, meeting minutes, action logs, and dashboards.
  • Track project KPIs: OTD (On-Time Delivery), cost variance, yield, and customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare project closure reports and ensure successful handoff to production.

Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) preferred.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or similar certification is a plus.

Experience

  • 3–7+ years of project management experience in EMS or electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of PCB assembly (PCBA), SMT processes, supply chain, and NPI cycles.
  • Experience working with global customers (consumer electronics, automotive, industrial, medical—depending on employer’s market).
