Position Overview
The Senior Project Manager - MEP is responsible for leading and managing complex MEP projects from initiation through completion. This role requires extensive technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, combined with strong project management skills to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget for commercial real estate developments.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & ManagementLead MEP project teams from design development through construction completion
Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for MEP systems
Coordinate with architects, general contractors, and other trades to ensure seamless integration
Manage multiple concurrent MEP projects ranging from $5M to $50M+ in value
Oversee project delivery methods including design-build, design-bid-build, and integrated project delivery
Technical ExcellenceReview and approve MEP design drawings, specifications, and calculations
Ensure compliance with local codes, standards, and regulations (ASHRAE, NEC, IPC, etc.)
Provide technical guidance on HVAC, electrical power distribution, lighting, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Conduct constructability reviews and value engineering assessments
Resolve complex technical issues and design conflicts during construction
Client & Stakeholder ManagementServe as primary MEP contact for clients, consultants, and project stakeholders
Lead project meetings, design reviews, and progress presentations
Manage client expectations and maintain strong professional relationships
Coordinate with building commissioning agents and regulatory authorities
Ensure project deliverables meet client requirements and quality standards
Team Development & MentoringSupervise and mentor junior project managers and engineering staff
Conduct performance evaluations and provide career development guidance
Foster collaborative team environment and knowledge sharing
Lead training initiatives on new technologies and industry best practices
Required QualificationsEducation & LicensingBachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
LEED AP credential preferred
Additional certifications (PMP, CEM, etc.) highly valued
Experience Requirements8-12 years of MEP project management experience
Minimum 5 years managing projects >$10M value
Extensive experience with commercial, institutional, or mixed-use developments
Proven track record of successful project delivery in fast-paced environments
Experience with sustainable design and high-performance building systems
Technical ExpertiseDeep knowledge of MEP systems design and construction practices
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM coordination software
Understanding of building automation systems and smart building technologies
Knowledge of energy modeling software (eQUEST, EnergyPro, etc.)
Familiarity with prefabrication and modular MEP systems
Core CompetenciesExceptional project management and organizational skills
Strong leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities in deadline-driven environment
Strong business acumen and cost management skills
Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Engineering or MBA
Experience with healthcare, laboratory, or data center MEP systems
Knowledge of renewable energy systems and microgrid technologies
Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Primavera, etc.)
Experience with Design-Build and Public-Private Partnership (P3) delivery methods
International project experience
