Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Technical & Industry Knowledge

  • Understanding of solar manufacturing materials: steel coils, aluminum, glass, EVA, backsheet, cells, junction boxes, fasteners, wiring, etc.
  • Knowledge of solar structure components (purlins, rafters, C/Z purlin, clamps, brackets).
  • Familiarity with IS/IEC standards for solar components.
  • Knowledge of machinery spare parts used in roll forming, welding, cutting, and fabrication lines.

2. Vendor Management Skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Vendor evaluation, onboarding, and performance monitoring.
  • Negotiation skills for cost, delivery, and payment terms.
  • Ability to identify reliable local and international suppliers.

3. Cost & Budget Management

  • Price analysis and cost comparison for materials.
  • Cost reduction strategies (bulk buying, alternate vendors, standardization).
  • Understanding of landed cost, logistics charges, taxes, and import duties.

4. Supply Chain & Inventory Skills

  • Handling raw material planning based on production targets.
  • Monitoring stock levels to avoid shortages or excess inventory.
  • Coordinating with production, warehouse, and quality teams.
  • Knowledge of supply chain bottlenecks and mitigation strategies.

5. Negotiation & Communication Skills

  • Strong commercial negotiation skills.
  • Clear communication with suppliers, management, and internal teams.
  • Drafting clear purchase terms & agreements.

6. Analytical & Data Management Skills

  • Ability to analyze purchase trends and forecast requirements.
  • Understanding of ERP systems (SAP, Tally, Oracle, Zoho).
  • Managing purchase reports, MIS, GRN tracking, rate comparison sheets, etc.

7. Compliance & Documentation Skills

  • Knowledge of procurement policies and audit requirements.
  • Preparing POs, contracts, supplier agreements.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulatory norms.

8. Problem-Solving & Decision Making

  • Handling supplier delays, quality issues, or unexpected shortages.
  • Quick decision-making to avoid production stoppages.
  • Risk management for critical materials.

9. Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Leading a team of buyers/executives.
  • Coordinating with production planners, finance, logistics, and management.
  • Training procurement staff on processes and systems.

10. Ethical & Professional Conduct

  • Ensuring transparent and fair procurement practices.
  • Avoiding conflicts of interest and unethical supplier deals.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
