About the job

The Principal Fire Engineer will lead fire engineering projects, ensuring the highest standards in fire safety design, consulting, and regulation compliance. This senior role demands advanced technical expertise, client engagement and leadership in delivering innovative fire safety solutions across building and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

·      Lead complex fire engineering projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring client requirements and regulatory standards are met.

·      Conduct fire risk assessments, fire modelling and develop fire safety strategies for various structures and industrial facilities.

·      Provide expert guidance on fire protection system designs, including suppression, detection, and alarm systems integration.

·      Respond to RFPs/RFIs and develop compelling proposals, effort estimates and technical presentations.

·      Collaborate with sales teams to drive customer conversations, technical workshops, and demos.

·      Collaborate closely with architects, engineers and construction teams for seamless fire safety integration.

·      Oversee technical reviews, quality assurance, and delivery handoffs to clients.

·      Mentor and guide junior engineers and team members.

·      Engage with clients effectively to understand their needs and provide professional consultation and solutions.

·      Stay current with fire codes, standards (such as NFPA), and emerging fire protection technologies.

Client Engagement & Delivery Handoff

·      Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients by understanding their fire safety needs and project objectives.

·      Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients during project execution, ensuring clear and transparent communication of project progress, challenges, and solutions.

·      Manage client expectations through regular status updates, meetings, and presentations of key deliverables.

·      Collaborate with clients to review and finalize fire safety designs and documentation, incorporating their feedback effectively.

·      Ensure smooth and timely handoff of all project deliverables, including detailed reports, fire safety plans, and compliance documentation.

·      Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve any issues during the delivery phase and post-delivery support, ensuring client satisfaction and project success.

·      Facilitate knowledge transfer and training for clients where required on fire safety systems and emergency procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications

·      Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.

·      10+ years of relevant experience in fire engineering consultancy or related fields.

·      Strong knowledge of international and local fire safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, NBC).

·      Proficiency in fire engineering software tools like FDS, Pathfinder, AutoCAD, Revit,SprinkCad,FireCad or CFD software.

·      Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.

·      Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management abilities.

·      Demonstrated success in pre and post sales roles: proposal writing, effort estimation and pricing strategies.

Preferred (Good To Have) Skills

·      Professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer (CEng), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), or equivalent.

·      Previous experience in leading large-scale or multidisciplinary fire safety projects.

·      Knowledge of smart fire safety systems integration and digital tools in fire safety engineering.

·      Familiarity with regulatory approval processes in India and international markets.

Experience

·      Demonstrated track record of delivering fire safety engineering projects successfully with client satisfaction.

·      Experience in mentoring and leading engineering teams in a consultancy environment.

·      Proven ability to balance technical quality, client deadlines and team coordination.
