As a Network Engineer on the Oracle Infrastructure Engineering Services (IES) – Network Operations & Reliability Engineering team, you will handle change requests, service requests, incident response, and problem management. You will support the design, deployment, and operation of large-scale Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and be primarily focused on Network Operations. The role requires strong protocol-level networking knowledge to manage production environments. OCI spans a global footprint with hundreds of thousands of network devices and millions of servers, connected through dedicated backbone links and the Internet. The team is globally distributed, so on-call responsibilities are assigned per shift/region, with flexibility required for occasional urgent issues.

Responsibilities
Network Operations & Incident Management
- Work as part of the Network Operations team to manage complex network incidents in both on-premises and cloud environments (OCI & AWS), driving timely troubleshooting and resolution.
- Lead major incident bridges, coordinating with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams for recovery and root cause analysis.
- Conduct post-incident reviews, document findings, and implement preventive actions to improve reliability.
- Maintain network uptime as a top operational priority through proactive monitoring and corrective measures.
- Participate in on-call rotations, providing support during weekends or global coverage periods as required.
- Collaborate with the Global Operations Center to refine detection, escalation, and resolution processes.
Network Design, Implementation & Lifecycle Management
- Support design, build, and configuration of network infrastructure across on-premises and cloud (OCI & AWS) environments.
- Plan and execute network migrations, upgrades, and maintenance activities aligned with change management.
- Configure and maintain routing, switching, firewall, and load balancing devices according to standards.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation, including topology diagrams, MOPs, and runbooks.
Operational Excellence & Reliability
- Monitor network performance, capacity, and health metrics to ensure optimal operation and minimal downtime.
- Work with vendors (Cisco, Palo Alto, F5, Netscaler) for software updates, bug resolution, and performance enhancements.
- Enforce configuration standards, operational policies, and security controls.
- Contribute to problem management, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Cloud, Security, Data Center Engineering) to ensure seamless network operations.
- Mentor junior engineers, enhancing troubleshooting and operational expertise.
- Participate in service transition reviews, ensuring new deployments meet operational readiness standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5+ years of experience managing large-scale enterprise and network environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Cisco Routing and Switching (IOS, NX-OS)
- Firewalls: Cisco ASA and Palo Alto
- Load Balancers: F5 LTM/GTM or Citrix Netscaler
- Data Center Networking: Cisco ACI fabric configuration and operations
- Cloud (OCI/AWS)
- Solid understanding of core network protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, NAT, and ACLs.
- Strong experience in network troubleshooting, incident management, and change control processes.
- Exposure to network monitoring and management tools).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions during high-severity incidents.
Preferred Skills And Experience
- Hands-on expertise in ITIL processes: Incident, Problem, and Change Management within Network Operations.
- Strong understanding of network monitoring, performance metrics, SLAs, and operational dashboards.
- Proven ability to manage and coordinate high-severity incidents with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Experience supporting large-scale on-premises and cloud networks (OCI & AWS) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with data center and hybrid cloud networking, including routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancers.
