Octobotics Tech pioneers robotic and AI-driven Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) solutions for industries such as shipping, oil & gas, heavy engineering and steel. Flagship platforms—including the OCRV crawler, Reach Master and Track Sense—deliver precise, safe and efficient inspections that set new benchmarks for industrial maintenance.

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen our product-development team. You will design, optimise and validate mechanical systems for our robotic platforms, collaborating with electrical, software and field teams to transform cutting-edge concepts into reliable, production-ready solutions.

·      Design & Development – Conceptualise, detail and document mechanical components and assemblies for magnetic crawlers, robotic arms and inspection tools.

·      CAD & Documentation – Create 3-D CAD models, detailed drawings and BOMs using SolidWorks or Creo; maintain data in PDM/PLM systems.

·      Analysis & Simulation – Perform FEA, tolerance studies and motion simulations to confirm strength, fatigue life and functional performance.

·      Systems Integration – Work with electrical, controls and software teams to embed sensors, actuators and embedded electronics seamlessly into mechanical designs.

·      Prototyping & Testing – Build prototypes and lead rapid design iterations through laboratory and field validation.

·      Compliance & Standards – Ensure adherence to ATEX, IP ratings, material specifications and other relevant industrial standards.

·      Manufacturing Interface – Partner with vendors to develop cost-effective tooling, injection moulds and machining processes.

·      Issue Resolution – Diagnose and resolve mechanical problems during assembly, testing and deployment.

·      Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).

·      5+ years of mechanical-design experience in robotics, automation or heavy machinery.

·      Proficiency in 3-D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo) and 2-D drafting.

·      Hands-on experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus) and simulation workflows.

·      Strong knowledge of CNC machining, sheet-metal fabrication and injection moulding.

·      Familiarity with material selection, metallurgy and surface treatments.

·      Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; meticulous attention to detail.

·      Proven communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

·      Design experience with magnetically adhered crawlers or inspection robots.

·      Knowledge of NDT sensor integration (ultrasonic, visual, eddy-current).

·      Exposure to embedded-systems packaging and thermal management.

·      Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.

·      Rigorous CAD modelling and drawing-standard compliance.

·      Data-driven, analytical decision-making.

·      Ability to manage multiple design tasks and timelines concurrently.
