Mission of the Role:

Key Objectives of this Role:

  • Thermal System Design expert who can collaborate with Hardware design, Mechanical design, Tooling and manufacturing teams to implement cooling solution into Visteon’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Cockpit Domain Controller (CDC) products.
  • Candidate should possess strong knowledge of conjugated heat transfer, passive and active cooling methodologies including liquid cooling,
  • Design cold plates with optimized fin/channel geometry for high heat flux dissipation and low pressure drop to maintain optimal operating temperatures for the powerful SoCs. Optimize fin/channel topology for thermal and hydraulic performance.
  • Define joining processes such as Friction Stir Welding, brazing, laser welding or any suitable techniques for mass production for aluminum cold plate assemblies. Validate joining processes and perform NDT for weld quality.
  • Assess and mitigate condensation risk in cold plate and enclosure design.
  • Develop sealing strategies (O-rings, gaskets, form-in-place) for leak-free operation under thermal shock/cycling, vibration and pressure pulsation test.
  • Awareness of material compatibility with automotive coolants.
  • Lead DFMEA preparation, support DV test plan creation and PPAP readiness for mass production.
  • Drive supplier development and PPAP approval for cooling components.
  • Good understanding of environmental test procedures applicable for Liquid cooled module.
  • End-to-end ownership of cold plate architecture, CAD, GD&T, and drawings.
  • Understand customer requirement and supports Mechanical Design Reviews from thermal architecture and system design definition perspective.
  • Support and approve mechanical risks assessment on project
  • Provide technical guidance to mechanical engineers, including mentoring and coaching.
  • Create or update guidelines
  • Share Lessons Learned with mechanical engineering community
  • Support VAVE initiatives by providing some ideas and assessing technical feasibility
  • Drive innovations in Mechanical domain and lead development on new technologies
  • Provide to Executive Leadership technical solutions and vision.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Achieving thermal resistance and maximum component temperature vs. specification.
  • Coolant pressure drop within design limits.
  • Leak free coolant channel/enclosure design and first-pass yield in validation and production.
  • Resolving design issues, if any, after tool kick-off and product validation
  • Respect of Technical Design Review process
  • On-time delivery of DVP&R and PPAP milestones.
  • BOM cost
