Job Description

Roles and responsibilities – Facilities - MEP (Technical)/ Lab Engineer

Oversee the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing infrastructure to support semiconductor lab operations.

Key Responsibilities

A facilities technical person in the semiconductor industry has several critical responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation of manufacturing processes. Here are the key responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Performing regular maintenance and repairs on facilities infrastructure that is supporting the lab equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.

Process Monitoring and Adjustment: Monitoring and adjusting processing equipment to maintain efficiency and quality, including setting up, calibrating, and adjusting equipment parameters.

Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues with critical systems to prevent disruptions in the lab operations.

Data Collection and Analysis: Collecting and analyzing data from the all the critical systems (UPS, CDA, PCW) to identify trends and areas for improvement.

Collaboration with Engineers: Working closely with GEL team to maintain, check, implement , execute their requirements with minimum TAT and cost effective.

Safety Compliance: Following all safety regulations and protocols, especially when handling critical systems and working on live floor.

Inventory Management: Maintaining inventory and ordering necessary supplies for all the critical systems to ensure no disruption to lab operations.

Ownership of Labs from facilities stand point:

Planning

Develop a roadmap for the lab, including:

  • Understanding internal customer tooling requirements, validating these requirements and schedules.
  • Studying feasibility, planning facility needs and capacity, and budgeting for execution.
  • Providing design engineering support for base build projects, system expansion, modifications, and new equipment installations.
  • Driving global alignment, reliability, efficiency improvements, cost reductions, capacity planning, improved automation and monitoring, regulatory compliance, and sustainability goals.
  • Executing short- and long-range planning efforts to maintain modern and efficient lab facilities through a proactive capital plan.

Building

  • Manage all retrofit, end-of-life, and engineering projects within the lab.
  • Oversee tool hook-ups to facilities utility infrastructure (e.g., Power, CDA/OFA, PCW, Gas (LN2), Pumps, Scrubbers, Abatements).
  • Engage with cross-functional teams (GEL, IT, Security, Procurement, EHS and vendors) to meet business requirements.
  • Develop program to check and ensure the life cycle refresh, renovation, maintenance, repairs, energy, and utility management to contribute to the company’s carbon footprint goals.

Running

  • Ensure 24x7, 365 days a year lab operation with 100% uptime, high availability, and reliability.
  • Monitor systems to ensure they operate within specification limits, assist in troubleshooting, and drive reliability and efficiency improvements.
  • Plan for consumables, spares, inventory, and replenishments.
  • Develop, review, and maintain Best Known Methods (BKM) documents focusing on operations and maintenance reliability and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Manage annual planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Partner with cross-functional teams and senior business leaders to solve business challenges with creative ideas and cost-effective solutions.
  • Manage team skills development, identify training needs, develop career plans, review performance, provide feedback, and advocate for team performance.
  • Drive a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Set mutual expectations and SLAs with stakeholders and ensure commitments are met.
  • Engage with business teams and contribute to evolving and transforming workplace operations.
  • Establish and manage performance metrics (KPI/CSI) and SLAs.
  • Create and drive improvement programs for process efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree (in Electrical, Mechanical).
  • 10+ years of experience in facilities field, preferably managing facilities operations for mid to large scale campuses.
