POSITION PURPOSE

Essar Capital is seeking an Industrial Trainee to join the Group Taxation team as part of the ICAI-mandated training program. The role offers a structured and high-exposure opportunity to work in a capital management environment, supporting both domestic and international tax compliance, litigation, and advisory matters across Essar’s investment portfolio. The trainee will gain hands-on experience in corporate taxation, indirect taxation, and transaction support.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

Pursuing or Completed CA/ Eligible for Industrial Training under ICAI regulations

Experience

Completion of at least 01-year of Articleship training with experience working on Tax assignments

SKILL/COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS

• Understanding of Income Tax Act, GST, TDS, DTAA
• Basis understanding of International Tax/ FEMA
• Strong academic record and proficiency in written and spoken English
• Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal databases (SCC, Manupatra, etc.)
• Excellent attention to detail & documentation skills
• Strong organisational and multitasking ability
• Discretion in handling confidential matters
• Willingness to learn and take ownership of assigned work
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

FUNCTIONS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Taxation

(Corporate Income Tax)

1. Assist in preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns, TDS returns, and advance tax computations.
2. Support data gathering and documentation for assessments, scrutiny notices, and tax audits.
3. Maintain working files for tax provisioning and deferred tax schedules in compliance with Ind-AS.

Indirect Taxation

(GST & Others)

1. Prepare workings for monthly GST returns, reconciliation with books of accounts, and payment tracking.
2. Assist in handling GST notices, queries, and departmental follow-ups.
3. Ensure proper classification of transactions and documentation for input tax credit eligibility.

International Taxation & Transaction Support

1. Assist in the review of inter-company transactions and compliance with

   Transfer Pricing

   regulations.
2. Support tax analysis related to cross-border structures, investments, and fund repatriation.
3. Maintain updated records of DTAA applicability and foreign remittance documentation.

Tax Compliance & Reporting

1. Help maintain internal tax trackers, calendars, and ensure timely execution of filings.
2. Coordinate with statutory auditors, consultants, and legal teams for reporting purposes.
3. Prepare MIS reports for the tax team, covering pending assessments, returns filed, and due dates.

Litigation & Documentation

1. Collate documentation for ongoing tax litigations at CIT(A), ITAT, or GST appellate levels.
2. Assist in drafting responses to notices and coordinating with legal counsel for hearing schedules.
3. Maintain organized files for all historical and current litigation matters.

FUTURE PROSPECTS

• On successful completion of the training and post qualifications, the candidate may be considered for suitable roles within Essar Capital or its group entities, subject to performance and organizational requirements. The role offers a steppingstone into taxation roles in private equity, infrastructure, and energy sectors, with exposure to high-value transactions, complex structures, and cross-border tax considerations.
