Job Description: Mechanical Engineer – HVAC (Chilled Water System Projects)
Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, executing, and commissioning large-scale HVAC projects, primarily focused on chilled water systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, project management capability, and coordination skills to ensure successful delivery of complex mechanical services in commercial, industrial, and infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Engineering & Design
Review project specifications, drawings, and tender documents for HVAC chilled water systems.
Assist in preparing detailed engineering designs, load calculations, equipment sizing, and material selection.
Develop chilled water piping layouts, pump head calculations, and equipment schedules.
Coordinate with consultants, architects, and internal design teams for approvals.
2. Execution & Site Management
Supervise installation of all chilled water system components including chillers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, cooling towers, piping networks, valves, and accessories.
Monitor contractor progress, quality, and compliance with approved drawings and standards.
Lead field engineering activities, resolve site technical issues, and provide on-site decision-making support.
Ensure installation follows ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISHRAE, and project-specific standards.
3. Project Planning & Coordination
Prepare and track project schedules, manpower deployment, material delivery, and work fronts.
Coordinate with civil, electrical, BMS, and safety teams to ensure seamless execution.
Attend project review meetings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Manage procurement by preparing BOQs, technical datasheets, and vendor evaluations.
4. Quality Assurance & Documentation
Conduct inspections and testing for piping, insulation, equipment installation, and system performance.
Prepare test packs, method statements, and inspection test plans (ITPs).
Maintain all project documentation including as-built drawings, material submittals, compliance reports, and progress reports.
5. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
Oversee flushing, pressure testing, balancing of chilled water networks, and equipment start-up.
Coordinate with OEMs for commissioning chillers, pumps, and control systems.
Ensure BMS integration and final system performance verification.
Prepare handover documents, O&M manuals, training sessions, and final sign-offs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) or equivalent.
Experience
3–10+ years of experience in large-scale HVAC chilled water system projects (depending on seniority).
Experience with high-rise buildings, hospitals, data centers, malls, industrial plants, or infrastructure projects preferred.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of chilled water systems, hydronic design, HVAC equipment, and energy principles.
Familiarity with design and analysis tools (AutoCAD, Revit/MEP, HAP, PipeFlow, etc.)
Knowledge of standards: ASHRAE, ISHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA.
Understanding of BMS/controls, TAB procedures, and commissioning protocols.
