we are creating an exceptional place to work for exceptional talent.We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering to lead our asset management engineering capability for various portfolios. This role is pivotal for driving Engineering initiatives and building a community across the Asset Management Technology teams. Your key priorities will centre around ensuring that the Application technical estate is maintained within cost and risk appetite, remains in support for Microsoft components and leverages the collective skills and experiences of the wider group to build valuable, stable and secure software.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities
- Build and enhance the Engineering function for Investment & Ops, Reg & Controls and Client & distribution portfolio, identifying opportunities for process improvements and innovations of the capability, increasing delivery velocity.
- Foster a collaborative environment for engineering team to share knowledge, tools, techniques & best practices, especially aligning to Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
- Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure Engineering excellence.
- Use data to drive decision-making and optimize delivery processes.
- Engages leaders, stakeholders and other impacted audiences to build relationships and an engaged workforce who understands business goals & what it means for customers and employees.
- Maintain assertive communication and keep day to day effective contact with Business Owners and senior leadership teams
- Inspire your team to deliver exceptional performance by helping them to connect the purpose of their work, beyond the impact to the bottom line.
- Providing independent oversight and support of technical delivery and Engineering practises across the Asset Management technology teams
- Delivering expert advice using specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise
- Applying judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk
- Managing conflicts that may impact delivery of initiatives.
- Challenging upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture
- Providing consultancy for new technology solutions to ensure that strategic solutions are being designed where possible, communicating the impact of short term tactical decisions
- Centrally coordinate and maintain momentum of cross-team Engineering initiatives to benefit from the speedy implementation of common tooling and reduce duplication of effort
- Defines and ensures that consistent, strategic architectural principles are followed as the platform evolved
- Agreeing core technology and tooling (and what autonomy teams have within a given frame) to enable the recruitment of core skillsets across the teams, along with particular skillsets for individual teams
- Facilitate the creation and maintenance of an Engineering community who can generate new ideas, solve problems and promote the spread of best practices
- Facilitate the sharing and leveraging of good technology patterns across the Asset Management Technology estate to benefit from collective experience and deliver strategic solutions
- Identifying and managing risks using expert judgment, know-how and experience
- Mentoring less experienced members of the Engineering community
- Providing input into the strategy defined by Enterprise Technology to ensure that Asset Management Technology’s interests are represented in M&G's Cloud Strategy
- Understanding the combined level of technical debt across the Asset Management Technology Portfolio application estate and the delivery teams plans for remediation
- As India Asset Management Tech leadership team, support to make effective decisions, collaborate across silos, speak up and take personal accountability.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Educational Qualification
Knowledge & Skills (Key):
- Strong domain knowledge across financial markets, including but not limited to Fixed Income, Equities, Derivatives, Alternatives, Private Equity and Private Debt.
- Highly experienced in managing a diverse cross-functional team.
- Proven track record of managing senior level stakeholders (CXO / Director) across locations for clear communication and alignment.
- Team player with experience in leading and collaborating cross-team to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
- Demonstrates an understanding of user-centered design, alongside complementary technology and data perspectives
- Strong software engineering skills with expertise in some of the following programming languages: C#, SQL, Python, Java, JavaScript.
- Experience of contributing to the delivery of software in a team that uses Azure PAAS technologies, security and delivery via Azure DevOps.
- Understanding scalability and cost of system design
- Keeps abreast of industry best practice and cascades accordingly. Knows how to make platform operations efficient and resilient.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, work management, time management and communications skills
- A keen interest in technology and its application within the financial services industry.

Experience:
- Strong experience to drive technical excellence.
- Ability to translate deprecation notices into tangible technology delivery requirements
- Ability to challenge technical approach and align technical solutions to strategic Architecture
- Able to secure funding through Enterprise Governance Forums, and experience of preparing viable business cases
- Ability to prioritise by understanding impact and urgency of technical debt items
- Ability to translate lower level technical information into meaningful information for less-technical stakeholders
- Proactivity and be a self-starter who can manage their own workload and can juggle multiple initiatives at the same time.
- Exposure to financial markets & asset management processes.
- 15+ years of corporate experience and large part of that with asset management firms
- Experience working in fast paced agile environments with cross functional teams.
- Strong experience with Agile methodoligies, its benefits and challenges. Experience scaling Agile ways of working across the function.
- Strong people leadership to build a high performing team.
