About the Role
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Engineering to lead our technology teams and drive the development and delivery of innovative, high-quality web and mobile applications. This role is pivotal in aligning IT strategies with business objectives and ensuring the seamless integration of technology across the organization. The Engineering Head will oversee the complete application lifecycle, spearhead development projects, foster innovation, and manage both internal teams and external vendors. This position is ideal for a leader with a robust background in application development, technology leadership, and project management.

Roles & Responsibilities
1. Application Development
· Collaborate with business stakeholders to analyse technology needs and develop cutting-edge web and mobile applications.
· Lead the full development lifecycle, including architecture, design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
· Integrate applications with core systems such as ERP (SAP), third-party platforms, banking APIs, and payment gateways.
· Implement scalable frameworks, APIs, micro services, and containerized deployments.
· Ensure compliance with secure coding practices and data protection regulations.
· Set and enforce coding standards and architectural guidelines.
· Lead internal development teams and manage delivery from external vendors.
2. Project Management & Delivery
· Oversee multiple parallel development projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope.
· Collaborate with Editorial, Sales, Circulation, Finance, HR, and other business units to convert requirements into robust solutions.
· Establish governance structures, version control, documentation standards, and change control processes.
· Drive Agile practices including sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous delivery.
3. Technology & Innovation
· Stay abreast of trends in AI/ML, cloud computing, CRM, digital publishing, and media technologies.
· Champion digital transformation projects such as newsroom automation, ad booking apps, and CRM-based workflows.
· Promote a data-driven culture by implementing analytics platforms, real-time dashboards, and reporting systems.
· Evaluate and deploy new technology stacks for improved performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
4. User Experience
· Deliver consistent, intuitive, and engaging experiences across all digital platforms.
· Monitor and improve application performance metrics including load time, user engagement, and satisfaction.
· Establish feedback loops to continuously enhance user experience and interface design.
5. Team Development & Capability Building
· Build and mentor a high-performing team comprising developers, architects, and QA professionals.
· Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and accountability.
· Drive capability building in modern technologies, DevOps, and Agile practices.
· Encourage innovation through tech spikes, hackathons, and cross-functional initiatives.
6. Vendor & Stakeholder Management
· Manage relationships with external vendors, SaaS providers, and system integrators.
· Ensure service level agreement (SLA) adherence, cost optimization, and quality standards in outsourced engagements.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field from a reputed institution.
· 18–25 years of strong experience in application architecture, development using modern technologies (Python, AI/ML), and project management.
Skills Required
Technology Skills
· Proven experience in driving digital transformation initiatives and developing digital strategies to support business growth.
· Strong expertise in application architecture, cloud technologies (preferably GCP), JavaScript, API integrations, CRM platforms, and ERP systems (preferably SAP).
· In-depth knowledge of key business processes such as Order to Cash (O2C), Record to Report (R2R), and Procure to Pay (P2P).
· Hands-on experience with application development using PHP, Python, Java, JavaScript, .NET, etc.
· Proficient in cloud-native development, deployment, and monitoring.
· Experience with database management systems (e.g., MS SQL, Oracle).
· Expertise in mobile application development for Android and iOS.
· Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems.
