Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize our data infrastructure that powers a high-traffic e-commerce platform. You will be responsible for ensuring performance, scalability, and availability of mission-critical databases across AWS, supporting MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elastic Search, Timeseries DB, Columnar DB and other database technologies. You’ll work closely with engineering, DevOps, and analytics teams to support order processing, customer data management, and real-time product catalogue performance. 

Database Management & Operations

• Administer and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases across AWS environments (RDS, Aurora, EC2).
• Manage daily operations: backups, restores, patching, replication, partitioning, sharding and upgrades.
• Implement and monitor HA (High Availability), Failover Strategies (Self-Managed & Managed) and DR (Disaster Recovery) strategies to ensure zero data loss and minimal downtime. 

Performance & Scalability

• Optimize database queries, schema, and indexes for high-volume transactions (product listings, carts, orders, etc.).
• Tune performance for large-scale traffic spikes during flash sales, campaigns, or seasonal peaks.
• Collaborate with developers to design efficient data models and query patterns for ecommerce workloads. 

Security & Compliance

• Enforce data protection policies and user access controls for customer and payment information.
• Implement encryption (at rest and in transit) and ensure compliance with PCI DSS, GDPR, and privacy standards.
• Monitor for vulnerabilities and apply timely patches.

Automation & DevOps Integration

• Automate routine DBA tasks (backups, failovers, user provisioning) using Python, Bash, or AWS CLI.
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation for consistent database provisioning.
• Integrate database management with CI/CD pipelines to support agile e-commerce development. 

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

• Implement robust monitoring and alerting using Amazon CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, replication lag, and database connectivity issues.
• Proactively identify potential failures and take preventive measures. Collaboration & Documentation
• Work closely with application developers, data engineers, and DevOps teams to ensure optimal data flow and system reliability.
• Maintain clear documentation of database architecture, configurations, and procedures.
• Contribute to data governance, retention, and archival strategies

Qualifications Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator in a production environment.
• Proven experience managing MySQL and PostgreSQL databases on AWS (RDS, Aurora, EC2).
• Strong skills in query optimization, index tuning, and database design for high-volume applications.
• Solid understanding of database replication, clustering, and partitioning.
• Experience with Linux/Unix systems and shell scripting.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, etc.).

Preferred:

• Prior experience in e-commerce or online retail environments.
• Familiarity with Redis, Elasticsearch, or NoSQL systems for caching and search optimization.
• · Knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or Kubernetes for automation and deployment.
• AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Solutions Architect).
