Job Description

Organizational Context:

UNDP has been working in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development. and accelerator labs, and data and digital architecture. You are invited to join a team of future-smart development professionals to support India in achieving the national and globally agreed goals. As part of the UNDP team, your focus will be to work with diverse stakeholders to find country-specific solutions that lead to sustainable development and reach those furthest behind first.

Project Background:
UNDP has been actively engaged in strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a driver of sustainable development in India, working with government, private sector, and civil society partners to enhance compliance, transparency, and impact. Building on this experience, UNDP, in collaboration with NITI Aayog, is focusing on leveraging CSR as a catalyst for inclusive growth and accelerated progress on the SDGs. In this background a national consultation will be organised at first in Northeast and followed by that another consultation will be oganised in Dehradun. There is a need of an intern to support the Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG) team and SDG Acceleration Unit in preparation of background documents related to the consultations. UNDP is seeking a motivated intern to support its CSR initiative with a focus on Uttarakhand State. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in development partnerships, CSR strategy, and SDG-focused investment. The intern will conduct research and analysis on CSR trends, legal frameworks, and best practices, prepare reports, summaries, and briefing notes, and monitor relevant publications and data to inform the initiative. They will also support partnership management by identifying potential collaborators across government and private sector and assist in preparing briefs and presentations for strategic discussions. In addition, the intern will provide documentation and administrative support by recording minutes, preparing background materials, and assisting in the organization of workshops, meetings, and events under the CSR initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support in Research and Analysis:
  • Conduct research to support the analytical work, including gathering data on development trends, policy analysis, and best practices.
  • Use data analytics to prepare reports, summaries, and briefing notes on various topics relevant to UNDP’s work and the SDG acceleration and finance unit’s priorities.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant news, publications, and reports on key development issues.
2. Support in Partnership Management:
  • Assist in identifying and researching potential areas of collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, and international organizations.
  • Support in the development of partnership briefs and presentations in strategic meetings and negotiations.
3. Documentation and Knowledge Management
  • Participate in meetings and record minutes for scheduled and other ad hoc meetings as needed.
  • Support in UNDP organized events and meetings by preparing necessary documentation and logistics.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in one of the following disciplines: Law, Economics, Development Studies, Management or other relevant subjects.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such Law, Economics, Development Studies, Management as Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the above field.
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Skills:

  • IT skills related to finance /administration will be an advantage. Knowledge of MS Excel and effective use of internet and web-based systems.
  • Ability to work with quick turnaround time.
  • Good team player and ability to adapt to changes in work environment
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and adjust accordingly as new priorities arise.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information and present it clearly.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and understanding of Hindi is desirable
