Chief Investment Officer

Role Overview

The Chief Investment Officer (CIO) will play a pivotal role in driving the Family Group’s investment strategy and managing its diversified portfolio—spanning listed and unlisted assets—under the guidance of the Managing Director. The role involves continuous review and optimization of investments, strategic asset allocation, and proactive engagement with market participants to identify and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Portfolio Construction & Management

• Lead and manage the Family Group’s domestic and overseas investment portfolios across multiple asset classes, including Equity, Fixed Income, Alternatives/Hybrids, and Commodities, in line with the Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and defined risk parameters.
• Conduct periodic reviews of all investments and present updates and performance reports to the IC.
• Monitor investment performance against benchmarks and ensure adherence to IPS and Asset Allocation Matrix.
• Identify and address deviations from defined policies and initiate corrective actions proactively.
• Manage entry and exit strategies for existing and prospective investments.
• Oversee liquidity management in alignment with the IPS and family directives.

2. Deal Sourcing

• Develop and maintain relationships with bankers, consultants, advisors, and other market intermediaries to source and evaluate new investment opportunities (both domestic and international).
• Engage and nurture relationships with founders, angel investors, and co-investors associated with investee companies.

3. Research & Analysis

• Drive in-depth macroeconomic, sectoral, and asset-class research to inform strategic investment decisions.
• Supervise the Investment Team’s primary and secondary research efforts to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
• Oversee deal scoring, investment rating, and preparation of investment teasers and research notes for IC and MD review.
• Foster a culture of analytical rigor, innovation, and continuous learning within the Investment Team.

4. Risk Management

• Develop and oversee a comprehensive Risk Management Framework covering:
• Market Risk
• Security-Specific Risk
• Liquidity Risk
• Ensure effective implementation of risk control measures across the investment portfolio.

5. Investment Operations

• Supervise end-to-end investment operations with a focus on minimizing operational risks and enhancing efficiency through technology and automation.
• Promote collaboration with cross-functional teams (Finance, Legal, HR, IT) for seamless execution of investment initiatives.
• Ensure real-time updating of trades and investments in internal systems or databases.
• Oversee investment documentation, legal vetting, and record management within the internal Document Management System (DMS).
• Coordinate with the Finance Team and brokers/partners to ensure adequate liquidity for treasury and investment activities.

6. Investment Processes & Governance

• Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Maintain comprehensive MIS and records of all investment activities as per established SOPs.
• Present investment opportunities, performance reviews, and recommendations to the Investment Committee for informed decision-making.
• Facilitate the conduct of IC meetings, ensuring adherence to defined processes and documentation standards.
