This role is located in Pune, MH.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
The Product Owner will lead one of the pods in the Capture & Distribute Group, which is one of the groups within the BNY Payments Enablement Enterprise Platform with the mission to ensure the seamless, standardized, and resilient capture, parsing, and distribution of various types of messages related to payments processing to and from market infrastructures, 3 rd party providers, external clients, and internal Lines of Business (LoBs), enabling high Straight Through Processing (STP) and timely delivery across various channels. The group is organized into specialized pods that manage the full lifecycle of payments messages handling.Key responsibilities of the Product Owner would be to manage one of the pods within the Capture and Distribute group, including
- Own and manage the product backlog for the pod, ensuring alignment with platform OKRs and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across various Business, Operations, Technology, Compliance, and Client Services to define and refine business problems and expected outcomes.
- Translate complex business needs into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Prioritize backlog items to balance new feature delivery, technical debt, and platform resiliency.
- Lead sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives in partnership with the Scrum Leads and development team.
- Ensure solution designs align with long-term architecture and platform vision.
- Monitor and measure pod’s performance, using data to inform decisions and continuous improvement.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of payment related information to internal Lines of Business (LoBs), external clients, 3 rd party providers and market infrastructures enabling smooth operations, maintaining client trust, and supporting compliance
Domain Expertise
- Understanding of end-to-end payment lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of payment rails: wires, ACH, instant payments, and emerging networks.
- Strong understanding of payment infrastructures and market utilities (e.g., SWIFT, CHIPS, Fedwire, SEPA, RTP, CHAPS, TARGET2, EPN, FED ACH, etc.).
- Strong understanding of payment message formats and standards such as ISO 20022, SWIFT MT, NACHA, and proprietary bank formats.
- Strong understanding of message transformation and distribution processes, including handling structured/unstructured data and ensuring message integrity across systems.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations in payments messaging.
- Ability to partner with internal Lines of Business (LoBs), external clients, and technology teams to deliver seamless and resilient payment messaging solutions.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Understanding of API integrations.
Product Ownership & Agile Skills
- Experience as a Product Owner in Agile/Scrum environments, with a solid grasp of Agile principles, ceremonies and backlog prioritization/management.
- Ability to write clear and actionable user stories, define acceptance criteria, and manage a product backlog.
- Strong stakeholder management skills — capable of balancing the needs of operations, compliance, IT, and clients.
- Experience collaborating with development teams, testers, and business SMEs to deliver high-quality solutions.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work cross-functionally across business and technical teams.
- Ability to analyze trends and use data to inform product decisions and drive operational efficiency.
- Proficiency with tools like JIRA, Confluence, Excel, and data visualization tools.
Soft Skills & Other Qualities
- Strong communication and documentation skills — able to translate complex payment processes into business and technical requirements.
- High attention to detail, especially in compliance- and risk-sensitive environments.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.
- Comfortable working in a global, cross-functional team and across different time zones
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalent
- 10+ years of experience in transaction banking, with at least 5-7 years in a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst role.
- Proven experience working on payment processing with focus on channels and messaging.
