Job Description

The Technical Head will own the entire productization, scaling, deployment, and technical operations pipeline for agricultural technologies developed by the R&D Agri team. This role ensures that prototypes become reliable, cost-optimized, manufacturable products, and that all deployed units in the field are maintained, monitored, supported, and continuously improved.The role combines engineering leadership, manufacturing readiness, and technical operations management.

Educational Qualification

  • Required: B.Tech/B.E. in Electronics, Electrical, Agricultural Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.
  • Preferred: M.Tech/MBA in Operations, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, or Agricultural Systems.
  • Bonus: Certifications in Quality (ISO), Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Product Lifecycle Management.

Skills:

Product Engineering & Scaling

  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle: prototype to engineering validation to pilot to manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of electronics, embedded systems, IoT hardware, and agricultural automation devices.
  • Ability to convert R&D lab solutions into mass-producible, cost-optimized, reliable products.
  • Experience with BOM optimization, DFM/DFT, vendor development, compliance & testing.

Technical Operations & Service

  • Ability to set up and manage service workflows, maintenance SOPs, and customer support systems.
  • Experience in handling field failures, reliability issues, RMAs, field servicing, and troubleshooting.
  • Skilled in designing technical dashboards, device telemetry, and field monitoring systems.
  • Ability to manage spare parts logistics, service technicians, and warranty processes.

Leadership & Cross-functional Coordination

  • Strong ability to collaborate with Mechanical, Production, QA, and Service teams.
  • Can define technical roadmaps, engineering timelines, and delivery schedules.
  • Can run technical reviews, product audits, reliability tests, and release approvals.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and team-building skills.

Responsibilities:

1. Scaling R&D Prototypes into Products

  • Evaluate R&D outputs and define clear steps to convert them into production-ready designs.
  • Work with engineering teams to finalize architecture, component selection, cost structure, and reliability targets.
  • Own DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFT (Design for Testing).
  • Oversee pilot builds, certification, and compliance (safety, EMI/EMC, environmental tests).

2. Production & Vendor Management

  • Set up manufacturing processes with internal teams or external vendors.
  • Select and manage suppliers for electronics, plastics, mechanicals, sensors, and agri components.
  • Ensure quality through incoming inspection, process audits, and final testing.

3. Deployment & Technical Operations

  • Lead installation, commissioning, and technical deployment of agri devices.
  • Build remote monitoring dashboards, telemetry systems, and field performance KPIs.
  • Ensure smooth onboarding and training of farmers/customers.

4. After-Sales Service & Support

  • Build and manage the service team.
  • Create service manuals, troubleshooting guides, maintenance schedules, and ticketing systems.
  • Track device health, failure modes, and reliability data; drive root-cause analysis.

5. Continuous Improvement

  • Use field data to improve product reliability, reduce failures, and enhance user experience.
  • Plan version upgrades, patch releases, firmware updates, and hardware refresh cycles.
  • Work with R&D to define the next generation of technologies.

6. Team Leadership

  • Manage a multidisciplinary technical team (production, QA, service, technicians).
  • Recruit, train, and mentor engineers & technical staff.
  • Ensure technical documentation, reports, and SOPs are maintained.

Minimum Experience

  • 4 to 5 years in product engineering, technical operations, agri-device development, or IoT hardware.
  • Experience with deployment at farms, field servicing, and real-world reliability challenges is strongly preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Kochi, Kerala: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
