Staff Design Evaluation Engineer (Software Focussed)
About the Role
The Staff Design Evaluation Engineer is a senior technical position working on complex and critical evaluation projects. This role involves leading complex technical problem resolution and acting as a technical resource. We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead firmware and embedded software development for our next-generation consumer audio products, including TWS earbuds, wireless headphones, Bluetooth speakers, and smart sound systems. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in wireless audio, DSP integration, Bluetooth LE Audio, and low-power embedded design, with a proven track record of taking products from concept to mass production.
Key Responsibilities

Lead architecture, design, and development of embedded software for consumer audio devices.

Develop and optimize firmware for audio DSPs, SoCs, and microcontrollers (Qualcomm QCC, TI, NXP, ADI, Cirrus Logic, etc.).

Integrate Bluetooth Classic, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Bluetooth LE Audio, and Wi-Fi connectivity for streaming and multi-device use.

Work on audio pipelines including ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), spatial audio, beamforming, and low-latency audio streaming.

Implement and optimize audio codecs (SBC, AAC, aptX, LDAC, LC3, Opus).
-
Collaborate with acoustics, hardware, mobile app, and cloud teams to deliver end-to-end user experiences.

Support board bring-up, debugging, and RF/audio performance validation.
-
Drive compliance with Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, FCC, CE, and global certification requirements.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and code quality oversight within the embedded team.

Explore emerging technologies: voice assistant integration, low-latency gaming audio, multi-stream audio, on-device AI/ML processing.
Must Have Skills

Architectural Expertise: Advanced technical knowledge to architect evaluation strategies for new silicon designs

Technical Leadership: Proven ability to influence and lead complex evaluation projects across multiple products

Advanced Debugging: Expert-level debugging capabilities for resolving challenging technical issues

Innovation: Ability to develop innovative test methodologies and drive automation initiatives

Cross-functional Collaboration: Skills to effectively collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams
Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics, or related field

8+ years of relevant experience embedded software/firmware development with direct experience in consumer audio products.

Strong proficiency in C/C++, with working knowledge of assembly and Python scripting for automation.

Hands-on expertise with wireless audio standards: A2DP, HFP, AVRCP, BLE Audio (LC3 codec), Wi-Fi streaming.

Experience with RTOS platforms (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, QNX, etc.).

Proven experience in ANC algorithms, beamforming, echo cancellation, and voice activation (wake word, keyword spotting).

Familiarity with TWS architectures (synchronization, left-right relay, low-latency links).

Strong debugging and optimization skills using JTAG, protocol analyzers, and audio test equipment.

Track record of shipping consumer audio devices from prototype to high-volume production.
