Position Summary
The Site Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational excellence of the chemical manufacturing site. This role ensures that all production, quality, safety, environmental, and compliance objectives are met in alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements. The Site Director oversees cross-functional teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and manages resources effectively to deliver high-quality chemical products safely, on time, and within budget. Serving as the key liaison between site operations and executive leadership, the Site Director plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety, innovation, compliance, and performance
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Develop and execute manufacturing strategy and plans that align with the organization//'s goals, contributing to its long-term success.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and efficiency enhancement across different departments and functions within manufacturing.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the manufacturing facility including production, maintenance, logistics, and safety.
- Allocate and manage resources effectively to ensure smooth operations, including budgeting, staffing, and capacity planning.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement site-level strategies aligned with corporate goals
- Provide leadership and direction to production staff and operational teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational success and regularly assess and report on performance against these metrics.
- Work closely with other department heads, such as SCM, Quality, R&D, Finance, Sales, and EHS to align operational activities with broader organizational objectives.
- Identify potential operational risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring business continuity and resilience.
- Health, Safety, Environment
- Drive safe working conditions with focus on EHS principles and company prescribed guidelines. Develop and implement contingency plans to address disruptions to business continuity.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and legal requirements related to the organization//'s manufacturing and shop-floor operations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the operational teams, encouraging innovation and the implementation of best practices.
- People Management
- Lead and develop cross-functional teams including Production, EHS, Maintenance/Engineering, and Supply Chain.
- Lead and manage organizational change initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
- Mentor plant leadership and foster a culture of accountability and continuous development.
- Work closely with HR to ensure effective talent acquisition, retention, and workforce planning.
- Communicate operational updates, strategies, and challenges to the executive team and other stakeholders.
- Provide leadership during critical situations or emergencies to ensure swift and effective responses.
- Evaluate and implement technological solutions that enhance operational efficiency, such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
- Identify and nurture talent within the operational teams, providing mentoring and growth opportunities for employees
- Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and partners to optimize collaborations and negotiate favorable terms.
- Serve as the primary site liaison for corporate leadership, regulatory bodies, suppliers, and customers.
- Represent the site during external audits, customer visits, and community relations events..
- Supply Chain & Inventory Management
- Oversee raw material procurement, inventory control, and production planning.
- Ensure timely delivery of products to meet customer demand and contractual obligations.
Education, Experience & Skillsets
- Education : BE, B Tech, MSc. (Chemistry) and MBA in Operations Excellence (preferred)
- Experience
- Minimum 18-22 years of post-qualification experience in production/ operations, with at least 8-10 years as plant head / site director in mid-large sized manufacturing company with B2B and / or B2C interface.
- Should have worked in global/ MNC.
