Senior Planning Engineer

A Senior Planning Engineer for Infrastructure develops, manages, and monitors complex project schedules using software like Primavera, coordinating teams, resources, and contractors to ensure timely, cost-effective project delivery, focusing on risk mitigation, progress reporting, and compliance with standards for large-scale developments (roads, Railways, Bridges, Metro Flyovers).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Planning & Scheduling:

Create and maintain detailed, resource-loaded master project schedules (baselines) for all project phases. Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using approved planning software, ensuring alignment with project scope, contractual milestones, and resource availability.

Progress Monitoring & Reporting:

• Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule, identify variances, and analyze their impact on project delivery.
• Prepare and submit periodic progress reports, including look-ahead schedules, S-curves, manpower histograms, and delay analysis.
• Provide early warnings of potential delays and propose practical recovery measures.
• Risk Management: Identify schedule risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Reporting: Prepare and present regular progress reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Change Management: Assess the impact of change orders on the schedule and update plans accordingly.
• Compliance: Ensure all planning activities comply with contract requirements.
• Resource Planning: Estimate and load required manpower, equipment, and materials on the network program and generate 3 months look ahead programme.

Coordination & Communication:

• Coordinate with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to gather progress data and validate reported achievements.
• Participate in project meetings to present schedule updates, highlight risks, and recommend solutions.
• Liaise with the cost control team to integrate schedule data with budget forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Resource & Productivity Management:
• Monitor resource deployment against planned allocations and highlight underutilization or shortages.
• Review productivity rates and adjust schedules to reflect realistic outputs.

Compliance & Documentation:

• Ensure all planning and scheduling activities comply with contractual, regulatory, and client requirements.
• Maintain comprehensive planning records, including schedule revisions, correspondence, and approvals, for audit and project closeout.

Key Skills & Qualifications

• Proficiency in planning software (Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Strong understanding of construction processes, infrastructure types (roads, bridges, flyover. Railway projects, metro projects, buildings)
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical skills for risk assessment and problem-solving.
• Experience with project controls, earned value, and performance metrics.
