Senior Mechanical Engineer
to lead mechanical design, development, and integration of advanced robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and development of robotic products, assemblies, and components.
- Develop complex Class A and Class B surfaces using CATIA (V5/3D Experience) for aesthetic and functional parts.
- Create and review 2D designs/drawings for manufacturing, assembly, and quality validation using CATIA, Creo, or SolidWorks.
- Perform sheet metal design and fabrication work, ensuring manufacturability and structural integrity.
- Work closely with styling, product design, and engineering teams to convert design concepts into manufacturable surfaces.
- Ensure surfacing quality standards (Class A for visible parts, Class B/C for functional parts) with proper continuity (G0/G1/G2/G3).
- Validate designs for feasibility in manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal forming, and composite layups.
- Modify and optimize surfaces to meet aerodynamic, ergonomic, and packaging requirements.
- Support digital mock-up (DMU) assembly integration and maintain design documentation/libraries.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS, PolyJet) including material selection, slicing, toolpath generation, and process optimization.
- Carry out post-processing tasks (support removal, sanding, finishing, curing) and ensure quality through documentation and printer logs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for rapid prototyping, functional testing, and stay updated with latest design and additive manufacturing technologies.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for fabrication, prototyping, material procurement, and quality assurance.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on expertise in CATIA Generative Shape Design (GSD), FreeStyle, and Imagine & Shape workbenches.
- Knowledge of surface analysis tools (curvature, zebra analysis, draft analysis).
- Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD tools such as CATIA, Creo, and SolidWorks.
- Understanding of CAD data exchange (STEP, IGES, JT) and collaboration with PLM systems (ENOVIA, Teamcenter, etc.).
- Good grasp of GD&T basics, manufacturing feasibility, and engineering requirements.
- Ability to work on Class A surfacing (for exterior styling) or Class B/C surfacing (for engineering parts).
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing equipment and software.
- Understanding of material properties and manufacturing tolerances.
- Experience in vendor management, supplier coordination, and external fabrication processes.
- Problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaboration and communication skills for working with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Preferred Background
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience in automotive interiors/exteriors, aerospace structures, or consumer product design.
- Prior exposure to OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, or design consultancies.
- Experience with robotics, automation systems, or electromechanical assemblies is a strong plus.
