Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide technical mechanical engineering support, ensuring that projects are delivered to high standards and within agreed timelines.

Your Purpose

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll play a key role in the design and delivery of mechanical systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success. You’ll focus on developing innovative solutions for water and wastewater treatment processes, while maintaining a commitment to health, safety, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design mechanical and hydraulic systems for water treatment plant processes, ensuring compliance with statutory and company standards.

Lead the design of pumping systems, including pump calculations, pump selection, and pipework design.

Design mechanical building services and integrate package plants (e.g., screens, filters, chemical dosing systems).

Develop and integrate bespoke solutions within existing treatment processes.

Design mechanical equipment for hazardous areas, ensuring DSEAR compliance.

Contribute to the development of standard products and industrialized package solutions.

Implement AW Engineering standards and ensure designs align with project outcomes.

Ensure all designs meet project timescales, budget, and quality standards, escalating issues when necessary.

Balance capital and maintenance expenditure to optimize project value.

Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Ensure mechanical designs meet the “safe to operate” requirements, prioritizing health and safety compliance.

Provide technical expertise and safety advice to design teams, contractors, and others to ensure successful project outcomes.

Comply with all relevant mechanical standards, including LOLER, PUWER, PSSR2000, and CDM.


Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Minimum B. Tech / M. Tech from an institution of repute.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of design in the water industry.
  • An appreciation of the implications of works on the environment and knowledge of sustainable solutions, water and wastewater processes and health and safety legislation.
  • The ability to work with engineers from all disciplines and other industry professionals to optimise and develop bespoke and innovative designs.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT or Plant 3D as well as MS Office Software.
  • Strong interpersonal / team working skills, with a good working relationship with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors

  • A minimum of HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design, particularly in hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  • A strong understanding of modular build and construction processes.

  • Knowledge of electrical control, instrumentation, and switchgear systems.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
