The Senior Flight Test Engineer (UAV) will lead end-to-end flight-testing activities for advanced

fixed-wing, VTOL, and multirotor UAV platforms developed in the R&D division. The role requires

deep expertise in test planning, UAV performance evaluation, data analysis, safety management,

and cross-functional coordination to support rapid prototyping and iterative product development.

You will be responsible for ensuring that every UAV platform meets safety, reliability, and

performance goals as per R&D requirements and regulatory standards (DGCA, MoD, internal SOPs).

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop comprehensive Flight Test Plans, test cards, and risk assessments for prototypes and mission profiles.
• Execute UAV test flights across Stabilize, AltHold, Loiter, Auto, VTOL transition, and high-speed cruise modes.
• Conduct performance flights, endurance tests, envelope expansion, and payload integration evaluations.
• Lead ground testing including thrust bench tests, vibration analysis, Mag-Fit calibration, ESC/powertrain checks, and failsafe validation.
• Ensure full compliance with internal SOPs, safety standards, and national UAV regulations.
• Collect, log, and analyze ArduPilot/PX4 data, telemetry, and high-speed logs for insights and issue detection.
• Troubleshoot PID tuning, vibration issues, sensor anomalies, GPS/RTK errors, and power system deviations.
• Prepare structured flight test reports, NCRs, and RCAs with corrective recommendations to design and software teams.
• Collaborate with system, avionics, mechanical, propulsion, and embedded teams for seamless integration.
• Provide field insights to R&D for improving aerodynamics, electronics design, EMI/EMC performance, and overall system reliability.

Required Qualification & Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with ArduPilot/PX4, Cube/Pixhawk controllers, PID tuning, notch filters, vibration isolation, and autopilot configuration.
• Proficiency in Mission Planner/QGroundControl and flight-data analysis tools (MATLAB/Python preferred).
• Solid understanding of aerodynamics, propulsion systems, ESCs, motors, propellers, and high-voltage power systems.
• Ability to assess UAV performance parameters such as endurance, stability, thrust, drag, and response characteristics.
• Experience flying heavy-lift (50–200 kg) and mid-size multirotor/fixed-wing UAVs, including emergency handling and failsafe recovery.
• Strong knowledge of UAV test range operations, DGCA regulations, safety protocols, and risk-management practices.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s in Aerospace, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field.
• Prior experience in defence UAV R&D, rapid prototyping labs, or advanced flight-testing environments.
• Exposure to adaptive control, real-time telemetry, or AI-based flight control systems (preferred).
• UAV Safety/Remote Pilot certifications or DGCA-approved training (desirable).
