Senior Design Engineer – Battery Systems

About the Role:

We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative Senior Design Engineer to join our engineering team and play a key role in the design and development of lithium-ion battery packs and modules. This position will focus on the structural, thermal, and electrical integration of battery systems for energy storage and electric mobility applications.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams including cell development, mechanical design, thermal engineering, BMS (Battery Management System), and manufacturing to bring robust and scalable battery products from concept to production.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead the design and development of lithium-ion battery modules and packs from concept through production.
2. Create and manage 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and design documentation for mechanical, thermal, and electrical components of battery systems.
3. Perform system-level integration of cells, thermal management solutions, and structural housings.
4. Collaborate with electrical and BMS teams to ensure safe and reliable power distribution and signal interfaces.
5. Conduct design reviews, DFMEA, tolerance stack-up analysis, and ensure compliance with design standards and safety regulations (e.g., AIS156, UL, UN38.3, IEC, ISO 26262).
6. Work with manufacturing and industrial engineering teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and cost optimization.
7. Evaluate materials, fasteners, adhesives, and thermal interface materials used in battery system assemblies.
8. Support testing and validation of prototype units and analyse test data to inform design improvements.
9. Assist with supplier development and part approval processes for custom components.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or in similar field.
2. 3+ years of hands-on experience in battery pack/module design, preferably in lithium-ion systems.
3. Proficient in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or Creo) and PLM systems.
4. Strong understanding of structural mechanics, thermal management, and electrical/mechanical interfaces in battery systems.
5. Experience with battery safety standards and product compliance requirements.
6. Familiarity with thermal analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS) is a plus.
7. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
8. Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and cross-functional environment.
