We are seeking a passionate and technically skilled
Senior
Data Scientist
to join the
Commerce – Platforms, Data, and Experiences (PDX)
team. This team plays a pivotal role in shaping Microsoft’s commerce data strategy, building scalable data platforms, and delivering actionable ML driven insights that drive business transformation across the ecosystem.As a Senior Data Scientist in PD X, you will be responsible for conducting
applied research
and development in the areas of
anomaly detection, forecasting, recommendation systems
and privacy preserving AI and build prototypes as well as take the algorithms all the way to production – this covers all the ML engineering aspects end-to-end including algorithm development, coding and building prototypes as well as the production-grade ML sub-systems .
Responsibilities
- Conduct original research into the areas of forecasting, anomaly detection, recommendation systems as well as privacy preserving ML/AI and agentic AI. Disseminate the research findings by publishing in top conferences such as NeurIPS , AAAI, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, etc.
- Build scalable machine learning models as part of the Commerce Platform that would act as the foundation for insights across the Commerce Platform.
- Define the scientific vision for ML/AI in the commerce platform.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to deliver business impact powered by ML Models , e nsur ing the models built are operable, scalable, extensible and performant.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model evaluation using structured and unstructured datasets.
- Lead experimentation efforts to evaluate new features, forecasting, data quality, and anomaly detection systems.
- Be a champion of responsible AI development and ensure the necessary guardrails are put in place to ensure fairness, accountability and transparency of AI/ML models
- Build extensible solutions on LLM models to improve productivity of engineers across the commerce organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field from top institutes in India or abroad .
- 12 years of experience (for Bachelor’s degree) in applied machine learning R&D or in allied areas such as statistics, and AI , 9 years for Masters and 5 years for PhD.
- Top tier publications in ML – conferences such as NeurIPS , AAAI, ICML, ICLR, CVPR etc.
- Experience with ML frameworks, cloud platforms (Azure preferred ) and big data technologies.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and experimentation design.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance engineering effectiveness, coupled with a strong curiosity and commitment to continuous learning in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
