Role Overview

This role is for a high-ownership sales leader with an entrepreneurial mindset—someone who wants to build, own, and scale Zerowatt’s business development engine across South India.

Reporting directly to the COO and working closely with the Founder, the Business Development Specialist will carry end-to-end responsibility for regional revenue growth, strategic account acquisition, and pipeline conversion.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines direct industrial sales execution with team building, market expansion, and close collaboration with product and operations teams. You will operate as a core member of the leadership group, shaping how Zerowatt grows in its most critical industrial markets.


Key Responsibilities

1. Revenue Ownership & Go-To-Market Execution

  • Own South India sales targets and revenue delivery.
  • Define and execute region-specific go-to-market strategies for energy-intensive industrial customers.
  • Build, manage, and convert a strong, qualified sales pipeline aligned to monthly and quarterly goals.
  • Drive disciplined opportunity progression from prospecting to closure and confirmed orders.


2. Sales Team Building & Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and scale a regional sales team with presence across key industrial clusters.
  • Hire, train, and performance-manage sales managers and executives.
  • Establish clear roles, targets, review rhythms, and accountability structures.
  • Build a high-performance culture centered on ownership, learning, and outcomes—thriving in a fast-moving startup environment.


3. Structured Sales Processes & Execution Discipline

  • Design and institutionalize structured sales processes covering:
  • Account targeting and prioritization
  • Opportunity qualification and deal strategy
  • Deal reviews, forecasting, and CRM discipline
  • Pipeline visibility and conversion tracking
  • Ensure predictable revenue forecasting and transparent reporting.


4. Enterprise & Industrial Sales Leadership

  • Personally manage and close strategic, high-value industrial accounts.
  • Engage directly with plant heads, operations leaders, energy managers, sustainability heads, and senior leadership.
  • Lead consultative, value-based selling for complex, long-cycle industrial engagements.
  • Represent Zerowatt as a trusted advisor rather than a transactional vendor.


5. Cross-Functional & Founder Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Founder, COO, product, engineering, and operations teams.
  • Provide structured market intelligence and customer feedback to shape product positioning and roadmap decisions.
  • Ensure seamless handover from sales to implementation to protect customer experience and revenue realization.
  • Identify and explore new industrial segments and geographies without losing focus on core objectives.

Candidate Profile

1. Experience

  • 8–15 years of overall professional experience, including:
  • 5–10 years of hands-on B2B industrial sales
  • 3–8 years of sales team leadership with direct revenue ownership
  • Proven experience selling into energy-intensive manufacturing sectors such as:
  • Steel, foundry, metals, cement, chemicals, or large process industries
  • Prior exposure to selling industrial solutions such as:
  • Energy systems, automation, instrumentation, industrial software, or technical services
  • Startup or high-growth environment experience is a strong plus.


2. Skills & Attributes

  • Strong ability to close complex, consultative, multi-stakeholder industrial deals.
  • Demonstrated capability to build and scale sales teams from the ground up.
  • Deep understanding of industrial buying cycles and decision processes.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and limited structure.
  • Strong ownership mindset with a bias toward execution and measurable outcomes.
  • Willingness to travel extensively for customer and site engagements.
  • Languages: Professional English required; Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, or Kannada are a plus.
