Job Description

An OEM merchandiser acts as the crucial link between the cosmetics brand (the buyer) and the manufacturing facility (the OEM). They are primarily responsible for ensuring the entire production process, from concept to delivery, runs smoothly and efficiently.


  • Client Communication and Project Management:

First point of contact: They are the main point of contact for the client (the cosmetics brand). They receive inquiries, design briefs, and new product development requests.

Understanding client needs: They must have a deep understanding of the client's vision, target market, and product specifications, including formulation, packaging, and desired price points.

Project oversight: They manage the project from start to finish, ensuring all deadlines and quality standards are met. This involves coordinating with various internal departments and external suppliers.


  • Product Development and Sourcing:


Bridging design and production: They work with the client's product development team to translate a concept into a manufacturable product.

Sample management: They manage the entire sampling process, from creating initial mock-ups and lab samples to producing final pre-production samples for client approval.


  • Costing and Negotiation:


Cost analysis: They calculate the cost of a product, taking into account all factors like raw materials, packaging, labor, and overhead.

Price negotiation: They negotiate prices and terms with both the client and suppliers to ensure the project is profitable for the OEM business.


  • Documentation and Logistics:


Order management: They manage all the paperwork related to an order, including purchase orders, production schedules, and shipping documents.

Logistics coordination: They coordinate with the logistics and shipping departments to ensure the finished goods are delivered to the client on time and in perfect condition.


In essence, the cosmetics OEM merchandiser is a project manager, a supply chain coordinator, and a client relationship manager all rolled into one.
