Job Description

Role overview The Purchase Engineer is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing materials, components, and services required for production and projects. This role works closely with engineering, production, quality, and supply‑chain teams to ensure cost‑effective purchasing, on‑time delivery, and compliance with technical specifications and company policies. Key responsibilities Source and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, lead time, and reliability; maintain approved vendor lists. Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements to secure favorable commercial and technical terms. Prepare and issue purchase orders, track order status, and follow up to ensure timely delivery. Coordinate with engineering and production to translate technical drawings and BOMs into procurement specifications. Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, or nonconformance. Manage inventory levels and material planning to prevent stockouts and minimize carrying costs. Maintain purchasing records and documentation for audits, traceability, and cost analysis. Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Required qualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field; diploma with relevant experience may be acceptable. 3–7 years of procurement or purchasing experience, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial sectors. Proven experience negotiating supplier contracts and managing vendor relationships. Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and procurement workflows. Core skills and competenciesTechnical understanding of materials, components, and manufacturing processes. Strong negotiation and commercial acumen. Analytical skills for cost breakdowns, supplier evaluation, and inventory optimization. Attention to detail for specifications, quality requirements, and documentation. Communication and stakeholder management to coordinate across engineering, quality, and operations teams. Proficiency with procurement tools and MS Office; ERP experience preferred. Performance indicators On‑time delivery rate of purchased items. Cost savings achieved through negotiation and sourcing. Supplier quality performance (defect rates, returns). Inventory turnover and stockout incidents. Working conditions and travelOffice and plant visits; occasional travel to supplier sites for audits and negotiations. Standard business hours with occasional extended hours to meet project deadlines.
