Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced academic editor with project management experience to join our team. This role involves in-depth knowledge and understanding of publication cycles, post-acceptance journal production, academic editing and formatting, and project management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in copy editing and language polishing, organization, decision-making, and a passion for continuous learning and development.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Editing & Formatting (Mandatory)

• Perform formatting and copy editing for academic post-acceptance manuscripts
• Ensure and application of customized style guides
• Effectively meet all publication workflow deadlines

Quality Assurance (Mandatory)

• Quality check edited manuscripts for clarity, style, and grammar
• Work with Production Editor to maintain and regularly update internal client-specific style guides via feedback and discussions with relevant stakeholders
• Maintain quality benchmarks of edited files via audits, quality checks, feedback, discussions, and other relevant steps
• Actively evaluate editorial and production output and proactively identify opportunities to clarify, document, improve, or optimize editorial and formatting styles and workflows to strengthen editorial quality and improve efficiency
• Adapt to project changes, ensuring smooth workflow and problem-solving

Communication & Stakeholder Management (Mandatory)

• Communicate and coordinate effectively with authors, clients, and all internal and external stakeholders
• Simplify complex topics and ensure everybody associated with the project is aligned on project status and expectations
• Proactively identify areas requiring clarification or standardization

Project Management (Mandatory)

• Oversee and track editing and production workflow for manuscripts across multiple journals, demonstrating full ownership (including, but not limited to, style updates, quality, strategy, deadline adherence, workload management, client satisfaction, and training and future hiring)
• Monitor progress and proactively flag risks, bottlenecks, or scope deviations
• Identify gaps and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
• Work with senior management for budgeting, pricing, and establishing workflows and processes for any new projects

Documentation and reporting (Mandatory)

• Maintain accurate documentation of styles decisions, communications, workflow updates, and client-specific instructions
• Prepare various scheduled an ad hoc reports on project status and progress

Other requirements

Adaptability & Continuous Learning (Highly Preferable)

• Stay updated with editorial tools, scientific publishing trends, and manuscript production technologies
• Be adaptable in a fast-paced environment and willing to take on new challenges
• Proactive engagement and problem-solving mindset in process and quality improvement strategies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify complex style discussions
• Experience effectively managing multiple projects and deadlines
