Detailed Description:

Tooling Engineer - Mechanics

Mission of the Role

:

Serve as an industry expert and provide guidance in his area of expertise. The Technical Fellow will be the primary consultant to Executive Leadership, providing vision and solutions on Mechanics to achieve company goals.

Key Objectives of this Role:

Quote phase

  • Preliminary Plastic flow studies
  • Material recommendations
  • Preliminary engagement with suppliers and manufacturing
  • Involved in supplier selection process
  • Tools quotes review
  • Involvement in customer TDRs in relation to
  • the part feasibility and tooling strategy

Development phase

  • DFM reviews (detail design feasibility for tooling draft angles, wall
  • thickness ratio, parting line definition, etc.
  • Plastic Flow studies
  • Material confirmation
  • Drawing reviews incl. tolerance evaluation
  • Supplier interaction
  • Tools cost analysis
  • Tool design review & approval, tools buy off
  • Part evaluation support dimensional, appearance, etc.
  • Tool trials attendance
  • Involvement in customer TDRs in relation to the part feasibility and
  • tooling strategy
  • Root cause cause analysis
  • Using UG or Catia to analyze existing tooling designs and improve on them.
  • Developing blueprints for new tooling designs as per client or project specifications.
  • Sharing designs with colleagues and implementing any relevant feedback in the new designs.
  • Developing prototypes and testing new designs.
  • Carrying out quality assurance tests on new designs.
  • Share Lessons Learned with mechanical engineering community
  • Support VAVE initiatives by providing some ideas and assessing technical feasibility
  • Drive innovations in Mechanical domain and lead development on new technologies
  • Provide to Executive Leadership technical solutions and vision.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Design issues after tool kick-off and product validation
  • Respect of Technical Design Review process and timing
  • BOM cost
  • Lessons learned sharing

Key Year One Deliverables:

  • No non-conformity in Process for Technical Design Reviews on projects he/she is supporting
  • One training session provided to mechanical engineering community

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

  • Experience level 7 to 10 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a relevant discipline, NTTF/CIPET,A master’s degree is preferable.
  • Mechanical design Experience in Automotive products development, preferably in Displays, Infotainment, Cockpit Electronic products, Electrification vehicles products.
  • Proficiency and mastery in mechanical domain
  • The ability to work independently and to collaborate with others.
  • Practical experience using UG or Catia software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • A good eye for detail
  • Leadership skills.
  • The ability to complete projects on time and to specification.
  • Good communication skills, Oral, writing
  • Traveling to manufacturing plants and factories to gather information and liaise with manufacturing and design teams.
  • Coordination with Cross functional team like Manufacturing, design etc.
  • Ability to direct and solve complex problems
  • Proven supervisory and technical leadership especially in identification and resolution of technical problems.
  • Ability to share knowledge and to mentor and coach mechanical engineer
