Job Overview:

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior PostgreSQL DBA to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in managing, optimizing, and scaling PostgreSQL databases in a Kubernetes-based environment that utilizes sharding and pods for high availability and distributed workloads. The role requires deep technical expertise, an ownership mindset, and hands-on experience working with mission-critical, high-throughput database systems.

Key Responsibilities:

·      Design, implement, and maintain highly available PostgreSQL clusters

·      Manage sharded database architecture and performance across multiple pods in Kubernetes

·      Optimize database performance, indexing, query tuning, and vacuuming strategies

·      Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues including replication, failover, and storage

·      Automate backups, recovery plans, and database provisioning

·      Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with client policies

·      Collaborate with DevOps and application teams to ensure smooth database operations and integrations

·      Participate in incident management and on-call support for database-related production issues

·      Perform database capacity planning, data partitioning, and archiving strategies

Technical Skills & Experience Required:

·      8+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL administration

·      Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning, replication, and backup/restore mechanisms

·      Experience with database sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling

·      Solid understanding of AWS services such as EC2, EKS, RDS, Aurora, S3, CloudWatcha

·      Proficient in writing SQL, PL/pgSQL, and automation scripts (Bash, Python, etc.)

·      Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, or pgBadger

·      Experience integrating with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

·      Strong understanding of database security, auditing, and access control

Desirable Skills:

·      Exposure to cloud-native PostgreSQL services (e.g., Amazon RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure PostgreSQL)

·      Familiarity with PostgreSQL extensions like PostGIS, TimescaleDB, etc.

·      Knowledge of high availability tools (Patroni, Pgpool-II, Stolon, etc.)

·      Exposure to multi-tenant or microservices-based architectures

·      Knowledge of cloud cost optimization for database infrastructure

·      Experience working in an Agile development environment

·      Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with cross-functional teams

·      Comfortable in client-facing roles, especially during incidents and design discussions

·      Willingness to mentor junior DBAs and support team knowledge sharing
