Job Description – PostgreSQL DBA (L2 Support)

Position: PostgreSQL Database Administrator

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL DBA (L2) who has strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL Community Edition administration and production support. The ideal candidate should be capable of independently managing customer environments, ensuring database performance, stability, security, and availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and support PostgreSQL Community Edition databases in production environments
• Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, query slowdowns, indexing problems, and locking/contention
• Perform regular backups, restores, and Point-In-Time Recovery (PITR) testing
• Manage database security: users, roles, privileges, encryption, and auditing
• Handle routine maintenance: vacuum, reindex, bloat management, and health checks
• Monitor replication, diagnose and resolve replication lag/issues
• Work independently to handle incidents, service requests, and problem management
• Create and maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and runbooks

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL Community Edition
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, internals, and performance tuning
• Experience with:
• Streaming replication (physical & logical)
• Backup tools (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, Barman, pgBackRest)
• PITR implementation
• Query execution plans (EXPLAIN/ANALYZE)
• Indexing strategies (B-tree, GIN, GiST, BRIN)
• Ability to independently manage production PostgreSQL environments

Good to Have (Preferred Skills)

• Experience with cloud-managed PostgreSQL (Azure Database for PostgreSQL / Amazon RDS / Aurora)
• Knowledge of HA tools such as Patroni, Repmgr, Pgpool-II, HAProxy
• Basic understanding of Linux administration and shell scripting
• Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience with containerized PostgreSQL (Docker / Kubernetes – basic knowledge)

Soft Skills

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Good communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to work independently and own production environments

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹500,000.00 - ₹1,000,000.00 per year
