We at Meclusions are looking for 3 to 6 years experienced (Freshers may also apply , but only person who is extremely cut throat with technical knowledge required for Film making and its every segments)
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Technical Director to be the technological mastermind behind our 3D animated film. This is not just a senior role; it's the most critical position on our production team. We need a brilliant problem-solver who can design and maintain a streamlined, cost-effective, and fast production pipeline using Blender, Unreal Engine, and cutting-edge AI technologies.
You will be the central pillar of our technical operations, ensuring all creative segments—from hair and fur to cloth, crowd, and complex effects—function flawlessly and efficiently. Your mission is to empower our talented artists, especially our junior staff, by building robust tools and systems that allow them to focus on their art rather than on technical hurdles. This role demands a unique blend of high-level programming, deep technical knowledge of 3D software, and a passion for creating elegant solutions that drive down production costs and render times.
Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and maintain the entire 3D production pipeline from asset creation to final render.
- Develop custom tools, scripts, and add-ons in Blender to automate repetitive tasks and improve artist workflows.
- Oversee and optimize all dynamic elements, including hair, fur, cloth, crowd simulation, and particles/FX.
- Integrate AI tools and procedural workflows to accelerate production, such as AI-assisted rigging, motion capture, and content generation.
- Design and manage the render farm, specifically by leveraging Unreal Engine for real-time and near-real-time final rendering.
- Provide high-level technical support and mentorship to all departments, solving complex issues and training junior artists on new tools and processes.
- Collaborate with the director and other supervisors to translate creative needs into a viable and efficient technical plan.
- Conduct research and development to identify and implement new technologies that can further enhance our pipeline.
BLENDER :- TD must be pro at making Houdini, Maya and Blender work and sync well
We are only looking for Mumbai Based artist, Others who fall from other than Mumbai area must avoid applying, untill you are planning to shift to Mumbai.
Blender + AI combo will be the most preferred by Team Meclusions
Nature of Work:
The Technical Director's role is a proactive one, constantly at the intersection of technology and art. You are the person who makes the impossible possible through code and clever engineering.
- The Problem-Solver: You are the first and last line of defense against any and all technical problems. Whether a character rig breaks, a crowd simulation fails, or a render stalls, you are the one who will find the root cause and fix it—permanently, with an automated solution if possible.
- The Architect & Engineer: Your core job is to build the digital infrastructure of the film. This means creating custom scripts and tools, often using Python in Blender, to build a seamless pipeline. You might write a script that automates the export of rigged characters from Blender to Unreal Engine, or a tool that simplifies the setup of complex particle systems for junior artists.
- The Efficiency Expert: Your primary goal is to save time and money. You will achieve this by leveraging Unreal Engine's real-time rendering capabilities, optimizing scenes, and using AI tools to get tasks done in minutes that used to take hours. For example, you might create an AI-powered tool that automates the placement and simulation of crowd characters in a shot, or a procedural workflow that generates realistic grass or trees.
- The Mentor: You will be the most senior technical mind on the team. You'll not only fix problems but also teach artists how to avoid them. Your mentorship will elevate the entire team's skill level, making them more self-sufficient and productive.
Office Location: Goregaon West - Mumbai
Work Experience: 12 to 36 Months ( We are open for Freshers too)
Skillset:
- Blender: Deep, a code-level understanding of Blender. This goes beyond knowing how to use the interface; it means being proficient with the Blender Python API to create custom tools, operators, and add-ons.
- Unreal Engine: Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine for lighting, rendering, and real-time cinematic production. This includes a deep understanding of Sequencer, the Movie Render Queue, and performance optimization techniques.
- Programming Languages: Expertise in Python is non-negotiable. This is the primary language for scripting in Blender and automating workflows. C++ knowledge is also a significant plus, especially for integrating custom tools with Unreal Engine.
- Houdini/Other Sim Software: While the goal is to use Blender, knowledge of dedicated simulation software like Houdini for advanced FX, particles, and crowds is a valuable asset for understanding underlying principles.
- Pipeline Development: Proven experience in building and maintaining a production pipeline from scratch.
- Dynamics & Simulation: Extensive hands-on experience with hair, fur, cloth, and fluid simulations. The ability to write custom scripts to control these simulations is a must.
- Render Management: Experience with render farm management, both traditional and real-time. The ability to optimize scenes for fast render times is paramount.
- AI Integration: A strong interest and practical experience in integrating AI tools for asset generation, motion capture, and other production tasks.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to think critically and analytically to diagnose and solve complex technical challenges.
- Communication: Exceptional communication skills to explain highly technical concepts to non-technical team members and get to the root of their problems.
- Leadership: The ability to lead a team, inspire confidence, and take full ownership of the technical output of the film.
- Resourcefulness: A knack for finding clever, low-cost solutions to high-end production problems.
Software and Technologies for a Technical Director
- Blender (The Core): This is the central hub of your pipeline. The TD must not only be a power user but also a master of its underlying systems.
- Blender Python API: This is the most critical skill. The TD must be able to write and debug Python scripts to automate tasks, create custom tools, and build a unified pipeline. This includes everything from batch exporting assets to creating bespoke rigging and simulation setups.
- Geometry Nodes: A deep understanding of Blender's procedural node-based system is essential for everything from creating procedural environments and assets to generating realistic hair and fur, and even crowd systems.
- Physics Simulations: Expertise in Blender's built-in physics engine for cloth, fluids, and rigid bodies is required. The TD will be responsible for creating the initial setups and troubleshooting any simulation issues.
- Unreal Engine (The Render Engine): This is your solution for lightning-fast rendering and real-time feedback.
- Real-time Rendering: A TD must be an expert in Unreal Engine's rendering features, including Lumen for global illumination and Nanite for high-poly geometry, which are crucial for achieving film-quality visuals without traditional render farm costs.
- Sequencer & Blueprints: The TD will use Sequencer to manage cinematic shots and Blueprint visual scripting to create custom tools, automate workflows within UE, and set up dynamic in-engine effects.
- Groom System: The TD will be responsible for ensuring that hair and fur assets from Blender are properly imported and function correctly with Unreal's Groom system, handling physics and LODs.
- AI and Emerging Tech (The Accelerant): The TD must be a forward-thinker, always looking for new ways to save time.
- AI for Production: The TD should be actively exploring and implementing AI-powered tools for tasks like automated rigging, facial animation via webcam, or using AI for procedural texture and concept generation. This is key to keeping a small team productive.
- Procedural Content Generation: A TD should be able to write scripts or use tools to procedurally generate assets, which is far more efficient for crowds, environments, and intricate details than doing it by hand.
- Other Essential Skills & Software:
- Programming: While Python is the most important, a basic understanding of C++ is a huge plus, as it is the foundation of Unreal Engine and many core industry tools.
- VFX & Simulation Software: A TD should have a working knowledge of industry-standard tools like Houdini for its advanced simulation and procedural capabilities. This knowledge allows the TD to understand underlying principles and potentially port techniques to a Blender-based pipeline.
- Production Management Software: Proficiency with tools like Shotgun (now Autodesk Flow Production Tracking) or other similar platforms is crucial for managing tasks, assets, and shot versions across the entire film.
- Version Control: Mastery of Git or Perforce is essential for managing code and assets, preventing conflicts, and maintaining a stable production environment.
Salary: It will be decided as per your expertise and skillset (This will be discussed on teleconic conversation or on personal interview at our studio)
