The company specializes in designing and manufacturing advanced HVAC systems, Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS), and Roof Air Conditioning solutions for both traditional and electric passenger and light commercial vehicles. Known for its innovative approach, TACO-AI focuses on lightweight and high-performance solutions for cabin cooling and battery thermal management. The company is a key player in advancing thermal system technologies for the automotive industry.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Motor Control Algorithm Engineer with deep expertise in Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and Model-Based Design using MATLAB/Simulink. The role focuses on developing and validating traction motor control algorithms for Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (EV/HEV), ensuring compliance with automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise motor control algorithms (FOC, torque/speed control, regenerative braking strategies) for PMSM, BLDC, and induction motors used in EV/HEV powertrains.
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink and Embedded Coder for model-based design (MBD), auto-code generation, and deployment to target ECUs.
  • Implement Clarke/Park transforms, space vector modulation, current/torque observers, and PI/field-weakening controllers.
  • Ensure algorithms meet ISO 26262 functional safety requirements (ASIL-level compliance).
  • Perform HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) validation and support SIL/MIL/PIL testing workflows.
  • Collaborate with hardware and system engineers on inverter/motor interface requirements.
  • Work on efficiency optimization, torque ripple minimization, and thermal management strategies for traction motors.
  • Contribute to FMEA, safety concept, and DFMEA reviews for control algorithms.
  • Support calibration, debugging, and validation during vehicle integration testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Control Systems, or Automotive Engineering.
  • PHD in motor control FOC algorithm system preferred
  • Solid knowledge of motor control theory (FOC, sensor/sensorless control, observers, and estimators).
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink with auto-code generation workflows.
  • Hands-on experience in motor drive systems for EV/HEV applications.
  • Good understanding of ISO 26262 functional safety processes for control software.
  • Experience with CAN, LIN, or Automotive Ethernet for ECU communication.
  • Knowledge of inverter hardware, current sensing, and PWM strategies.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team (hardware, firmware, calibration, vehicle testing).
  • Passion for e-mobility, sustainability, and innovation in automotive drive systems.
