Job Description

Role Overview

The MEL Associate will play a key role in strengthening Matis impact measurement systems, ESG tracking, and organizational learning. This is an impact-focused position responsible for reviewing and upgrading our current MEL framework, ensuring data-driven decision-making, and providing credible reporting for stakeholders, investors, and certification bodies. The role involves extensive field engagement, rigorous data analysis, report preparation, and close collaboration with the Business Excellence team


Key Responsibilities:

The MEL Associate will lead a comprehensive review and enhancement of Matis Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning approach, including but not limited to:


  • Update and refine 

    Mati’s Theory of Change

     to align with evolving priorities, carbon removal goals, and farmer impact pathways.
  • Review and revise 

    impact indicators

     to ensure they are measurable, relevant, and ESG-aligned.
  • Upgrade and standardize 

    data collection tools

     for accuracy, consistency, and ease of field use.
  • Evaluate and improve 

    data systems

     for secure, accessible, and real-time tracking and analysis.
  • Integrate 

    digital solutions

     for impact monitoring, analytics, and reporting.
  • Plan and manage 

    external evaluations

     of programs, projects, and ESG performance.
  • Produce 

    clear, data-driven reports

     for leadership, partners, investors, and certification bodies.
  • Develop and maintain 

    carbon accounting protocols

     for operations and interventions.
  • Synthesize and share 

    findings, evidence, and lessons

     with internal and external audiences.
  • Establish 

    governance and accountability mechanisms

     for MEL activities with senior leadership and Board oversight.
  • Engage directly with 

    field teams and stakeholders

     to ensure data relevance and usability.
  • Ensure MEL processes 

    inform decision-making

     and drive continuous improvement.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Agriculture, Development Studies, Statistics, or related field(Masters preferred).
  • 3-5 years in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL), impact assessment, or sustainability roles.
  • Proven experience in data analysis and producing high-quality analytical reports.
  • Strong understanding of MEL frameworks, indicator design, and data collection methods.
  • Familiarity with ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, UN SDGs) and sustainability reporting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, or equivalent).
  • Field-based data collection experience, preferably in rural or agriculture projects.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including to rural and international project sites.
