Role scope

To prepare and oversee work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly. Coordinates assigned engineering work with other project groups/disciplines. Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries

Details / responsibilities

  • Be a team leader, manage, and add value to the assigned project
  • Manage Coordination/Communication with other disciplines, Contractor and Client
  • Review Contractor’s deliverables as required and ensure all Contractor’s engineering and design work performed meets quality, cost and schedule requirements
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the Client or to agreed industry standards
  • If required, perform designing/engineering work/deliverables as part of the team
  • Ability to interpret Client specifications
  • Consult Quality Assurance with any quality issues, ensuring compliance with ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan and Design Integrity processes and procedures
  • Identifying issues and problems, developing appropriate solutions, advising Client, and asking for assistance when required
  • If required, assist, and support junior personnel within the team
  • If required, provide support during fabrication, site construction, and commissioning activities
  • Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal / contract by raising technical queries with projects / client
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in Piping Engineering
  • Lead the development of overall plot plan and manage the development of the 3D model
  • Good understanding of Piping design codes
  • Production/coordination of piping engineering deliverables in accordance with relevant regulations, codes, standards, and Client quality assurance requirements
  • Participation in multi-discipline Engineering Design Reviews and provides all necessary Piping & Layout engineering input and support to close out of actions
  • Preparing the technical sections of inquiries, reviewing tenders, and making recommendations leading to the selection of vendors for piping specialties, valves, and engineered items such as springs and rigid supports
  • Review plant and piping design work across several engineering disciplines in the 3D integrated design systems
  • Oversee Piping bulk material aspects, bulk take-offs, quantification, allocation, and manipulation of a material management system
  • Troubleshoot piping configuration issues and recommend solutions
  • Perform fitness for service evaluation of existing piping systems
  • Identify and promote best practices (including national and international standards) for designing, operating, and maintaining piping, and associated equipment
  • As required, participate in site surveys, review Contractor’s site survey reports and ensure it is as per actual site conditions
  • Perform Contractors and/or Vendors Technical Bid Evaluations, as required
  • Being able to work with multiple and concurrently small and medium projects, if required
  • Competent use of relevant software, such as, MS Office Suite

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Minimum
  • 18 years relevant experience
  • Have worked for at least 5 years in similar positions for an international company
  • Work in office and site-based environments
  • Capable of using the appropriate software
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical attributes
  • Able to effectively communicate technical issues to peers and line manager (written and verbal)
  • Capability of verifying and handling information and producing instructions and guidance
  • Capability in using latest engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of technical requirements in own field and level
  • Design, development, checking and solving engineering problems
  • Analysing, integrating and interpreting results
  • Ownership of responsibility for work by self and team
  • Capability in management and leadership of own team
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to hold presentation and keep audience interested
  • Professional commitment in following appropriate code of professional conduct, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment
  • Capability of planning, implementing and controlling
  • Capabilities in estimating and forecasting
