Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities • Oversee the design and development of high-performance power supplies for welding & plasma systems, focusing on power conversion (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC). • Design robust and efficient power control circuits, including inverter systems, to deliver stable current and voltage for welding processes (e.g., arc welding, MIG/MAG, TIG). • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety requirements for high-power systems. • Optimize power delivery systems for different welding processes, ensuring reliability, thermal management, and operational efficiency. • Implement advanced control algorithms (e.g., pulse-width modulation, digital control) to improve welding performance. • Continuously improve energy efficiency and power factor correction (PFC) to meet evolving market demands. • Lead R&D efforts to explore new technologies in power electronics (e.g., GaN/SiC devices) for the next generation of welding power supplies. • Drive innovation to reduce the size, weight, and cost of welding power supplies while increasing performance and durability. • Oversee system-level testing and validation of power electronics designs, ensuring conformance to performance specifications. • Collaborate with test engineering teams to define validation protocols for thermal performance, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and reliability. • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations, ensuring on-time delivery of power electronics solutions. • Engage with stakeholders (product managers, customers) to understand market needs and align project goals accordingly. • Ensure designs meet relevant standards and certifications (e.g., CSA, CE) for industrial welding equipment. • Address power quality, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and safety regulations in the product design process. • Lead and manage a team of power electronics engineers, driving development from concept through production. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team in the design and optimization of power systems for welding equipment. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, systems engineering) to integrate power electronics into the final product. • Lead and manage a team of power electronics engineers, driving development from concept through production. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team in the design and optimization of power systems for welding equipment. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, T&V, systems engineering) to integrate power electronics into the final product. Qualifications • Educational Background: Bachelor’s & master’s degree in electrical engineering, Power Electronics, Control electronics field. • 11-14+ years of experience in power electronics design and development, particularly in high- power industrial applications like welding & plasma power suppliers and associated sub systems • Expertise in designing power converters (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC) for high-power applications. • Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies (e.g., SiC, GaN). • Strong knowledge of control systems, embedded systems, and digital signal processing (DSP) for power electronics control. • Familiarity with thermal management, reliability engineering, and EMI mitigation techniques. • Proficiency in simulation tools like MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, and CAD tools for PCB design. • Strong leadership, project management, and team coordination capabilities. • Ability to troubleshoot complex power electronics systems and lead root cause analysis.
