Job Title: Hostel Manager


Position Summary

The Hostel Manager will be responsible for the efficient, safe, and disciplined operation of the institution’s hostel, ensuring a comfortable, secure, and student-friendly living environment. The role is residential; the selected candidate will be required to live on campus in bachelor’s accommodation provided by the institution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day hostel operations, including occupancy management, room allocation, and upkeep of hostel premises.
  • Ensure safety, security, and discipline within the hostel, including enforcing hostel rules and handling violations appropriately.
  • Supervise housekeeping, maintenance, security, and support staff to ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and timely repair of facilities.
  • Monitor visitor entry, late entries, and leave requests. Manage hostel inventory—furniture, equipment, linen, appliances, etc.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for hostel residents for issues, complaints, and emergencies, ensuring timely resolution and escalation when needed.
  • Conduct regular rounds and inspections of hostel rooms, common areas, and facilities to maintain standards.
  • Coordinate with administrative, academic, and security departments for hostel-related matters and events.
  • Maintain first-aid kits, emergency contacts, and incident reporting mechanisms.
  • Handle emergencies such as medical issues, conflicts, or facility breakdowns.
  • Maintain records related to hostel occupancy, maintenance requests, incidents, and disciplinary actions.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols, including fire safety, emergency procedures, and visitor management.
  • Organise orientation/briefing for new residents on hostel rules, facilities, and expectations.
  • Coordinate with the Mess Manager/caterers regarding menu planning, food quality, hygiene, and timings. Address student feedback related to food quality.
  • Conduct periodic checks on kitchen cleanliness and safety norms.
  • Support institution-led initiatives to promote positive hostel culture, including discipline, cleanliness, and mutual respect among residents.
  • Prepare monthly reports on hostel occupancy, maintenance, incidents, and student activities.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate degree in any discipline (higher qualifications will be an added advantage).
  • Proven experience in a similar role such as Hostel Warden/Hostel Manager/Facility Manager, preferably in an educational institution or residential facility.
  • Ex-servicemen (Army/Navy/Air Force/Paramilitary) with relevant administrative/disciplinary experience will be given preference.
  • Strong people-management skills with the ability to deal firmly and fairly with students and staff.
  • Proficient in English
  • Basic computer literacy for maintaining records and reports.
