Job Overview:

The School Head, Primary School is responsible for the overall functioning of the primary school. This includes supervising the academic program and ensuring strong student outcomes by working with the Instructional Coach and teachers. The Head is also responsible for ensuring that focus areas, events conducted throughout the year, and activities led by co-curricular departments contribute to the holistic development of students.


Main Roles & Responsibilities:


1. Strategy, Goal Setting & Implementation

  • Participates in developing whole-school yearly academic and non-academic priorities and implementation plans with the Head of Academics.
  • Creates section-level strategies, focus areas, and implementation plans with clear milestones and monitoring mechanisms.
  • Drives and monitors progress, course-correcting as required.
  • Works with the Instructional Coach to review department-level strategies and goals.
  • Collaborates with co-curricular teachers to create goals and plans related to their domains.


2. Teacher Training

  • Creates whole-school trainings with the Instructional Coach for teacher induction, beginning-of-year (BOY), and end-of-year (EOY) sessions.
  • Supports the Instructional Coach in creating whole-school instructional and subject-specific trainings.
  • Tracks and monitors implementation of training learnings.
  • Creates section-specific non-academic trainings as required.


3. Curriculum and Instructional Resources

  • Reviews curricula of all subjects with the Instructional Coach.
  • Ensures curriculum scaffolding across grades aligned to learning standards and board requirements.
  • Monitors curriculum implementation through weekly plans, instructional materials, notebook reviews, and periodic reviews.
  • Analyzes student engagement and achievement data to suggest curriculum improvements.


4. Teacher Development

  • Conducts monthly classroom observations and facilitates upskilling.
  • Facilitates appraisal discussions and learning walks.
  • Identifies and supports teachers needing assistance with classroom culture and behaviour management.
  • Conducts observations and feedback for co-curricular and P&S staff.


5. Assessments and Analysis

  • Reviews formative and summative assessments to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Ensures timely updating of assessment data on SharePoint and MIS.
  • Analyses assessment data to identify strengths and improvement areas and monitors next steps.
  • Manages operational aspects of assessments when required.


6. School Culture

  • Role-models and fosters a positive, inclusive staff culture aligned with organizational values.
  • Drives student value development and manages disciplinary escalations.
  • Manages teacher expectations related to professionalism, ethics, and leave.


7. Other Important Tasks

  • Handles board exam-related tasks where applicable.
  • Participates in student and teacher selection processes.
  • Supports parent communication, attendance tracking, budgeting, timetabling, meetings, reporting, and system development.
  • Undertakes additional tasks assigned by the Head of Academics.


Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education
  • Certification in educational leadership preferred
  • Experience teaching primary school students
  • Experience in mentoring and leading teachers
  • Strong understanding of teaching, learning, and holistic development
  • Excellent leadership and 21st-century skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Commitment to academic and holistic excellence
