Job Overview

The General Manager - Taxation will be responsible for optimizing global tax structures to minimize costs, managing risks, ensuring compliance, and overseeing assessments. The General Manager – Taxation will be responsible for global tax cost management, international tax structuring, transfer pricing oversight, litigation management, tax provisioning, and monitoring end-to-end compliance across direct and indirect taxes. The role also entails managing digital tax automation initiatives, ESG-linked tax governance, and coordination with local consultants and external advisors in global jurisdictions. Additionally, this role entails establishing processes for timely compliance with tax laws and coordinating with local consultants for assessment proceedings.

Tax Cost Management and Compliance

  • Responsible for overall group-level tax cost management and structuring of various business arrangements to mitigate tax risks whilst optimising the global effective tax rate.
  • Ensure internal and external compliance with direct and indirect taxes, optimize international and domestic tax costs, and complying with local tax laws for proper withholding.
  • Identify tax changes and opportunities, implement controls over tax processes, and ensure timely submission of tax returns to regional and global authorities.
  • Devise tax-efficient mechanisms for repatriation of profits (e.g., dividends, royalties, service fee models).
  • Advise on tax structuring including for mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence and integration.

International Tax Structures and Guidance

  • Oversee international business and tax structures, including intercompany transactions, transfer pricing, and documentation of transfer pricing and other international tax matters.
  • Provide guidance to local finance and project teams on optimal tax structures for new country operations and business models.

Performance Improvement Initiatives

  • Drive initiatives to improve departmental performance at both company and group levels.

Tax Audits

  • Coordinate tax information flow with external auditors during audits;
  • Oversee and advise on global tax audits and litigation matters, including strategy to mitigate/minimize disputes.
  • Liaise with external counsel and represent the company, where required, before tax authorities.

Tax Provisioning & reporting's

  • Review and oversee consolidated Tax provisioning working for the Group including ETR analysis, IFRIC 23 assessment, contingent liability disclosures, quarterly/year-end tax reporting, tax note forming part of the financials and tax reporting's to the management, etc.

Tax Automation

  • Support in tax automation initiatives and integration with finance transformation projects (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, PAPM, DataSphere), ensuring data quality, compliance monitoring, and governance.

Team Management & Succession Planning

  • Manage and develop staff, including performance management, training, and career development.
  • Create and maintain a robust talent pipeline to ensure succession planning (1:2 ratio).

Environment, Social & Governance

  • Oversee corporate governance within the assigned region, ensuring alignment with organisational principles, policies, and regulations.
  • Promote judicious use of natural resources and adhere to the organisation's environment, health, and safety policies, objectives, and guidelines.
  • Drive the organisation's sustainability initiatives, working towards achieving established targets.

Anti Bribery Management Systems (ABMS)

  • Follow the ABMS roles and responsibilities details as prescribed on the ABMS manual.
  • Understanding of ethical standards and the importance of integrity in business practices.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate risks related to bribery in various business contexts. For more detailed explanation, follow the ABMS manual.

Education

  • Chartered Accountant certified by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

Experience

  • 10–15 years’ experience in International Taxation, preferably with Big 4 exposure and/or multinational group experience. Demonstrated expertise in global compliance frameworks and cross-border structuring.
