Job Summary

As an Engineer 1 on the DevX Platforms Cloud Native Application Platform (CNAP) Operations team, you will join a team of platform engineers in the daily operation of the team’s Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes-based platforms. Responsibilities include building and operating modern, multi-cloud application platforms using technologies such as Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, and Concourse CI/CD. Our team enriches these platforms by layering on easy-to-consume services such as load balancing, persistent storage, metrics and telemetry, messaging, CI/CD, and data services. We remove infrastructure bottlenecks, such as submitting request tickets, by automating everything. You will partner with the CNAP Engineering and Product Delivery teams on roadmap items and work with cross-functional teams such as Developers, Cloud, and Cybersecurity to ensure business outcomes are met.

Core Responsibilities

  • Actively participate on a DevOps Platform team to run and maintain Comcast’s Cloud Native Application Platforms (CNAP) built on open source Cloud Foundry and Kubernetes.
  • Develop and enhance the platforms using open source technology through automation, employing open source software and interacting with APIs.
  • Harvest and visualize metrics; monitor health, performance, and capacity of our platforms and services and perform appropriate capacity planning.
  • Provide excellent customer service to existing customers and act as a product evangelist for prospective customers.
  • Partner with the CNAP Engineering and Product Delivery teams to operate product roadmap items that bring new features, reliability, and stability to our platforms.
  • Work with the Development and Applications teams in TPX to ensure their code is running effectively, efficiently, and securely on our platforms.
  • Work with cross-functional teams such as the Cloud and Cybersecurity teams to ensure infrastructure as a service (IaaS) capacity is properly managed and the platform is operating in a secure fashion.
  • Participate in regular scrum/iteration planning and backlog grooming sessions.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work variable schedule as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Technical Skills

  • Foundational understanding of Linux concepts.
  • Familiarity with private and public cloud concepts (e.g., vSphere, AWS, Cloud Foundry) and an understanding of container orchestration basics (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Interest in and understanding of application modernization and migration strategies to cloud platforms.
  • Exposure to or interest in using open-source software to achieve business goals.
  • Basic understanding of cloud-native and 12-factor application design principles, and how to refactor applications for containerization.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tooling concepts such as Terraform, BOSH, and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Concourse).
  • Basic programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or GoLang, or a strong willingness to learn.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, demonstrating initiative, and a desire to deliver results.
  • Understanding of agile methodologies and experience using tools like Jira (or similar platforms) in an academic or project setting.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, in various work environments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
  • Any relevant academic projects, internships, or personal technical endeavors that demonstrate aptitude and passion for platform engineering.
