The ideal candidate has and the position requires experience designing the electrical systems of Data Centre Facilities. The position requires experience with the design of the appropriately sized Generators, Switchgear, UPS Systems, transformers, PDU’s and other Mission Critical equipment requiring electrical design skills incorporating reliability and redundancy in design. The Electrical Engineer applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to broad variety of assignments and related fields. The position requires use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices in individual’s field. Supervision and guidance relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. The individual should be able to develop test procedures and support the commissioning of electrical equipment. A minimum of 8-10 years of electrical engineering experience is appropriate. Registration as a licensed PE is usually required for this classification.

Responsibilities

  • Data center electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set.
  • Responsible for design and planning of electrical power systems for mission critical Datacentre projects.
  • Responsible for design and specifications of power and control systems, system layouts, load calculations, equipment sizing and selection, performing calculations of lighting systems and associated controls for assigned projects.
  • Creation of designs that meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
  • Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approval of equipment submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for site review, work with onsite field engineers and provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed.
  • Lead project/client pursuits/proposals.
  • Manage Vendor & Client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering,.
  • At least 10 years of experience in data center infrastructure design and management.
  • Professional Engineering License and knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
  • Detailed understanding of critical data center electrical equipment (including UPS, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches) and basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design.
  • Exposure to engaging in multiple built projects within APAC region.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality, reliability, or maintainability.
  • Experience with fast-track design/build projects, multiple significant upgrade projects, large-scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement energy-efficient solutions in large-scale operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively from a remote location
  • Excellent communication and project management skills

Desired Skills

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) AP or equivalent program
  • Professional Engineering License preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, PVsyst, ETAP, or similar).
