Director, Platform Engineering & ART

Exp. Range: 17 to 20 years

What does a successful Senior Director of Platform Engineering do at Fiserv?

A successful Senior Director of Platform Engineering at Fiserv leads the Platform Engineering function and Advanced Resolution Team, playing a pivotal role in shaping our internal developer platforms. This role ensures reliability, scalability, and efficiency across our infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines while managing a high-performing team of leaders and senior engineers responsible for advanced troubleshooting and critical incident resolution. This technical leader drives platform engineering capabilities and optimizes platform reliability to enable faster developer velocity through internal platforms, directly contributing to Fiserv's mission to be the best fintech on the planet.

About the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned and visionary Senior Director of Platform Engineering to lead our Platform Engineering function and Advanced Resolution Team. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping our internal developer platforms, ensuring reliability, scalability, and efficiency across our infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines, while also leading a high-performing team of leaders and senior engineers responsible for advanced troubleshooting and critical incident resolution.

What you will do:

Platform Engineering Leadership:

  • Define and execute the strategic vision for the Platform Engineering organization, aligning with business goals and engineering best practices.
  • Build, scale, and manage internal developer platforms (IDPs) and infrastructure components that accelerate development, reduce cognitive load on application teams, and improve reliability.
  • Champion platform-as-a-product thinking — driving adoption, ease of use, and measurable business value.
  • Oversee design, development, and support of CI/CD, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), observability, service mesh, and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with application teams, SRE, security, and DevOps to promote a consistent, automated, and secure developer experience.
  • Advanced Resolution & Incident Response:
  • Lead a specialized, cross-functional Advanced Resolution Team (ART) tasked with deep system troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and recovery during high-severity incidents.
  • Establish proactive monitoring, anomaly detection, and response strategies to prevent recurrence and reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR).
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for complex issues across infrastructure, networking, platform services, and application runtimes.
  • Partner with InfoSec and compliance teams on platform hardening, audit readiness, and incident forensics when required.
  • Team Building & Leadership:
  • Hire, mentor, and grow a high-caliber team of platform engineers and incident response experts.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and accountability.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with product, architecture, engineering, and operations teams to align on priorities and deliver outcomes.

What you will need to have:

  • 17+ years of experience in software engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role at Director level or above.
  • Proven experience leading Platform Engineering functions including build systems, infrastructure automation, service discovery, secrets management, and developer tooling.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, service mesh (e.g., Istio, Linkerd), Terraform, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Argo, Jenkins, GitHub Actions), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Demonstrated success leading advanced troubleshooting or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams during critical outages or complex technical escalations.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, observability, performance optimization, and incident command practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and/or equivalent military experience

    .

  • What would be great to have:

    • Experience working in regulated industries (e.g., fintech, financial GCCs) with a strong focus on compliance, observability, and resilience.
    • Familiarity with internal developer portals (e.g., Backstage) and platform-as-a-product adoption models.
    • Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL, or equivalent program management certification.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to mitigating risks.
