As a Director of Engineering – Digital you will drive innovation across development, devops and automation and lead a 60+ team of multi-disciplined engineers across Tech Leads, Developers, Technical Product Managers, and QA specialists.
In this role, you will own the technical vision and design of our websites and digital platforms, balancing scalability, speed, and maintainability. A key part of your role will be championing continuous improvement across processes, tooling, security, accessibility, and performance.
You will partner closely with your peers in Product and UX and maintain strong relationships across the business, acting as a trusted advisor on platform capabilities, technical enablement, and developer experience.
The ideal candidate should have deep technical expertise across Content Management Platforms (CMS) and websites, a broad range of AWS services, with a strong focus on data integration, enterprise search, and secure web hosting.
What you’ll be doing

You will lead three teams: Developer Engineering (building API’s, front and backend components for our websites, developer tooling), DevOps, and QA Engineering (QA strategy and execution).

Drive the development and hosting of web applications on AWS, ensuring high availability, performance, and cost-efficiency.

Evaluate technical architecture, trade-offs between delivery size and complexity, cost, risk, and stakeholder value, prioritising effectively.

Champion a focus on software qualities security, stability, scalability, testability, operability etc.

Implement security architectures, including WAF (Web Application Firewall) policies and CDN caching strategies (e.g., CloudFront).

Introduce holistic testing strategies, automation and release management rigor and establish advanced performance engineering.

As an engineering lead, the team will look to you to set a direction and drive through service improvements, features and change. You will work closely with your team mentoring and building their careers and will influence and work closely with wider principal engineers and architects in the organisation on our longer-term Engineering goals.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our solutions meet security, compliance, and operational requirements.

Develop knowledge and understanding of technologies in LSEG and utilise these in your own scope of work, and with colleagues as well as to create linkages

Manage relationships with key partners, setting performance standards and managing the resolution of escalated service issues

Experience
-
You are a senior engineering leader directly responsible for teams larger than 50+ individuals.

An ability to build and maintain highly effective relationships with senior product and engineering stakeholders.

Extensive experience of developing and executing strategy and governance, including accountability, engagement, KPI metrics and planning and controlling budgets
-
Extensive experience of leveraging deep and broad knowledge of emerging technology to promote innovation across the organisation to deliver services and solve business problems
-
Modern engineering practices, agile practices, automation and deployment pipelines
-
Experience in managing high performing teams and empowering them to deliver against the agreed strategy and roadmap
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with particular ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders and to listen to identified concerns and adapt accordingly

Well-developed strategic thinking skills with strong business acumen
Technical Skills
-
Content Management Systems such as AEM or other enterprise frameworks

AWS Glue, Lambda, API Gateway, and Kafka for both real-time and batch data processing

React.js with client-side rendering

Backend API’s written in Java, Python

Infrastructure as a Code with experience in dev ops technologies (Terraform, Python, DataDog or equivalent).

Software engineering with exposure to event high performance computing, event driven, big data analytics, machine learning
