To assist Head-Electrical in implementation of latest available electrical technology for New Projects of the buisness. The focus area shall be Reliability, Maintainability, Optimum Cost, Efficiency of Electrical System and in line of applicable safety/environmental standards and norms.

With a vision of increasing the cement capacity from 115 MTPA to 140 MTPA, Central Project Cell is established in 2010 with a clear focus on optimising project cost & time with emphasis on Safety.Project Cell is having In House capabilities to build a cement plant & Captive Power Plant/ Modernisation of plants / Efficiency improvements through innovative projects. The Team in project cell is consisting of Intellectuals, Subject Matter Experts and designers.16.9 MTPA of cement capacity is added since formation of project cell through execution of 04 IUs, 07 GUs, 02 BTs along with 68 MW of Waste Heat Recovery system and 155 MW Captive Power Plants.Presently, Cement business has 34 integrated units, 30 grinding units, 08 bulk terminals and further spreading its footprint steadily with new brown field/ Green Field projects and acquisitions. To maintain our market leadership & cost competitiveness it is important to continuously modernize by implementing innovative ideas in existing units, execution of new projects and acquisition. Project Cell is playing a vital role for achieving this objective.This will entail an investment of ~INR 12,886 crores per annum and concurrent execution of multiple projects.This position is a part of the project cell.Now a days technology development is very fast. Also electrical standard basis are revised on regular basis by Electricity regulatory authorities and other government department to meet new safety and environment standards. In order to select and implement the latest cost economical and energy efficient technology without non-compliance with latest safety and environment standard has become challenging job and required deep knowledge of technology.
Major Challenges
- To provide accurate necessary inputs at initial stage of project so that civil & mechanical engineering drawings can be prepared and released for construction site as per project schedule is one of the most critical activities. It require complete visualization and deep knowledge of electrical distribution system.
- To keep track on state of art electrical technology and timely evaluate the same for implementing in new projects of business.
- While handling multi Projects without consultant, Interfacing with Inter department and suppliers, fetching the correct input, verifying the design data and calculations, Preparing and approving the detailed engineering drawing with High level of accuracy to achieve zero rework at site.
- In spite of failure of supplier to meet the commitment due to unseen reason in a very unpredictable business environment , timely delivery of all deliverable, engineering documents as well as equipment at project site.
- To optimize the size of various electrical equipment with bare minimum inputs from other engineering sections and OEMs which in turn help in optimizing the project cost and operational efficiency.

KRA1 1.To prepare draft Technical Specifications and Tender for Electrical System
- To update technical specifications by incorporating the latest Indian standards / International standards through various mean and sources and submit to Head Electrical for approval.
- To study the OEM product catalogues and write-ups to develop and update in design guidelines after taking concurrence from Head electrical Project.
- To Track the learning’s and feedbacks from all the sites, prepare detailed report about the feedbacks and taking concurrence from Head Electrical to update the same in the standard documents.
- To get the detailed design inputs from the supplier/ vendor and other industries to develop technical concepts to ensure cost effectiveness, quality of drawings and reliability of Equipments
- To Provide UTCL Safety Standards for Electrical System in Design, Engineering erection & commissioning to Equipment Suppliers and Contractors.
KRA2 2. Basic & Conceptual Engineering
- To Collect the Required inputs/information from internal customers and vendors
- To prepare Basic Engineering with respect to inputs and as guided by Head Electrical.
- To prepare bill of material for electrical packages as per power distribution concept for budget planning.
- To prepare package wise technical specifications/Bill of Material and Required document of electrical system for Tendering.
- To assist Head Electrical for the release of tender document to Suppliers.
- Analyzing the technical data of the suppliers’ offers and Technical clarification meeting with vendors.
- To prepare technical evaluation report for the packages and give recommendation to Head-Electrical.
KRA3 3. Detailed Design & Engineering
- To obtain required inputs/details for preparation of power distribution system from mechanical, process & power system consultants.
- To work out electrical system selection in terms of size, rating and capacity for electrical equipment and getting approval from Head-Electrical.
- To prepare & propose load center sub-station locations, Main cable route OH Gallery & Tunnels in plant layout ensuring minimum power distribution losses and voltage regulation and submit to Head-Electrical for approval.
- To prepare & propose detailed process wise Interface & hookup Schemes for Electrical Systems.
- To prepare and approve civil assignment layout for main openings, foundation of electrical Equipments in civil layout drawings.
- To review and approve all design data’s /calculations /Drawings and Quality assurance plan as per UTCL concepts and guidelines.
KRA4 4)Project Design & Engineering Schedule
- To prepare complete scope matrix required for the project and submit to Head-Electrical for review.
- To Prepare detailed electrical activities schedule for the Entire Project and submit Head-Electrical for approval
- Plan and prioritizing the project activities in line with the approved project schedule.
- To coordinate with all the suppliers for getting the drawing as per schedule
- Timely release of approved Equipment drawing to suppliers for manufacturing as per project schedule.
- Timely release of approved Engineering drawings for execution at Site as per the project progress.
KRA5 6Cost Optimization during project engineering & Execution
- To study, Propose and implement Energy saving electrical equipment which benefits in cost, reliability and safety in operation and propose to Head-Electrical.
- To evaluate Life cycle cost and select equipments for electrical systems which benefits in minimum operating cost and Maintenance cost and get evaluated from Head-Electrical
- To prepare plan to optimize spares and standardization of equipments benefits in inventory and Interchangeability of Equipment in Electrical System and propose to Head-Electrical.
- To prepare plan layout for electrical building like- Substation /Cable Gallery /Tunnels and all Layout Engineering which will benefit in civil cost, Land foot print, power distribution losses and Regulation and submit to Head –Electrical for review and further approval.
- To Select equipments in such a way to give high power quality and reliability of Equipments for all the projects
KRA6 6Project Execution Support
- To Provide Support to Site Execution Team for Installation & Commissioning by:
- To assist superior for technical clarification on drawing and documents during project executions,
- To assist in preparation of Installation & Commissioning Check List for project Ramp Up.
KRA7 6Project Learnings
- To get the learning’s from the Site in charge after project stabilization from the projects as guided by Head-Electrical.
- To Prepare Detailed analysis report on project learning’s and submit to Head-Electrical.
- To participate in brain storming for analyzing Learning Data and Identifying Possible Alternatives for improvement and selecting best Possible Alternative and Updating Project Standards in Design, Engineering or Procurement or Adherence to Standards in Execution.
- To Implement Project Learning in Upcoming / New Projects.
