Head- Designing, Costing & Proposal
will be responsible for leading the design, estimation, and proposal development for water treatment projects. This role requires a deep understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, engineering design, cost estimation and bid preparation to ensure the delivery of competitive and technically sound proposals.
Expertise in Designing Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants (WTPs and WWTPs):
- Lead the design of both domestic and industrial Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) and Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), ensuring the designs are tailored to the specific needs of each client and project.
- Design plant layouts and equipment layouts for both WTPs and WWTPs, taking into account site conditions, space optimization, and process efficiency.
- Have thorough knowledge of various types of equipment and materials required for the construction and operation of water treatment plants.
- Develop detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and process descriptions for WTPs and WWTPs.
Cost Estimation and Proposal Development:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and financial proposals for water treatment projects by evaluating technical requirements and identifying project scope.
- Ensure all proposals are competitive, technically viable and meet client requirements, with detailed cost breakdowns, schedules and deliverables.
- Collaborate with vendors to obtain quotations and technical specifications for equipment and materials needed during the proposal or tendering phase.
- Standardize conceptual designs with a detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for regular systems offered to different market segments, ensuring consistency and efficiency in the bidding process.
Ensure that the timelines for submitting proposals to clients are adhered to (as per attached annexure).
Software & Tools for Proposal Development:
- Develop and maintain software tools (e.g., Excel-based models or the CRM system of FDIPL) for designing WTPs and for various technologies used in WWTPs (e.g., ASP, MBBR, SBR, MBR).
- Use these tools to generate accurate and detailed designs, cost estimates and documentation for different treatment technologies.
Customized Design Development:
- Develop designs for specialized industrial effluent treatment systems with high Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) using advanced technologies such as UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) as a biological treatment stage.
- Incorporate environmental chemistry principles to ensure that the designs meet regulatory standards and environmental sustainability goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams to optimize designs for both regular systems and customized, complex projects, balancing technical feasibility and commercial viability.
Site Evaluation and Parameters Incorporation:
- Evaluate site conditions (if needed) to incorporate relevant local parameters into the designs and cost estimates, ensuring the feasibility of the project at the specific location.
- Consider factors like water quality, local infrastructure and environmental constraints to ensure the proposed design will function optimally under real-world conditions.
Client Interaction and Consultation:
- Meet with customers and their engineering teams to discuss treatment philosophies, answer technical questions and provide solutions to water treatment challenges as they arise.
- Act as the key technical contact during the proposal phase, ensuring alignment between client expectations and proposed designs.
- Provide clients with timely updates, clarification on design decisions and technical insights.
Leadership Management & Team Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Oversee the daily operations of the design and proposal teams, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provide training to engineers on design processes, software tools, database usage and standard formats to ensure consistency and quality in all deliverables.
- Develop and deliver training modules specific to each vertical of water treatment (WTPs, WWTPs, industrial effluent treatment), ensuring team members are up to date with industry best practices and the latest technologies.
- Identify skill gaps and work to continuously develop the team's technical expertise.
Software and Technical Skills:
AutoCAD:
Proficient in AutoCAD for creating layout drawings and design documents.MS Office:
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for data analysis, documentation and presentations.Design Software/CRM:
Familiarity with design software or custom CRM (such as FDIPL’s own CRM) used for project estimation, design and costing.
