Job Title: Data Engineering Engineer 2

Position Overview

Seeking a skilled

Data Engineering professional (Engineer 2 level)

with 4–5 years of experience in SQL development, ETL processes, and data analytics. This individual will be responsible for developing and optimizing backend data systems, enabling advanced analytics, and supporting both on-premise and cloud-based data solutions (with a focus on Google Cloud Platform).

Key Responsibilities

  • Backend Data Engineering
  • Design and develop complex SQL queries, views, stored procedures in SQL Server/Oracle.
  • Create and optimize dimensional models, materialized views, data marts, and cursors.
  • Perform performance tuning (indexing, partitioning, execution plan analysis).
  • Manage data modeling, schema design, and data dictionary creation.
  • Source and format structured and unstructured data for analysis.
  • ETL Development
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines using ETL tools (e.g., Informatica IICS, DataStage).
  • Transform and move data from source systems to staging, marts, and data lakes.
  • Ensure pipelines align with business goals and ETL best practices.
  • Cloud Data Integration (GCP Focus)
  • Work with Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL), AlloyDB, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage.
  • Support or lead migrations from on-prem databases to GCP, ensuring compliance with data quality and security standards.
  • Reporting & Visualization
  • Develop reports and dashboards using Power BI, SAP BusinessObjects, or SSRS.
  • Apply data storytelling and visualization best practices.
  • Work with HR ERP systems (e.g., HCM) and use BIP for reporting when required.
  • Agile & DevOps
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Stand-ups, Retrospectives) using Jira or Rally.
  • Collaborate on CI/CD pipelines using tools like Git, DevOps, Cloud Build/Run, or Tekton.
  • Integrate security practices such as RBAC, encryption, and data masking.
  • Problem-Solving & Mentorship
  • Convert business problems into data solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve data anomalies.
  • Provide mentorship and conduct code reviews for junior team members.

Must-Have Skills

  • 4–5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering or database development.
  • Advanced SQL expertise in SQL Server or Oracle (e.g., CTEs, window functions, dynamic SQL).
  • Project-level experience with GCP services, especially Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) or AlloyDB.
  • Experience with at least one BI/reporting tool: Power BI, SAP BO, or SSRS.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and ALM tools (Jira, Rally, Azure Boards).
  • Basic understanding of DevOps: CI/CD, version control, security practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with additional visualization tools (Qlik Sense, Tableau, Looker).
  • Familiarity with CICD orchestration and deployment tools.
  • Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for data service deployments.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., GCP Data Engineer, Microsoft SQL Server).

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • Relevant certification programs preferred.
