Job Description

Role & responsibilities:

KRA Cultivation Manager

  1. Crop Management:

    • Develop and implement effective crop rotation and diversification plans.
    • Monitor crop health and growth stages using organic farming principles.
    • Ensure timely planting, maintenance, and harvesting of crops.
  2. Soil Management:

    • Oversee organic soil amendment practices, including composting and cover cropping.
    • Implement soil conservation practices to maintain fertility and prevent erosion.
    • Conduct soil testing and analysis to assess nutrient needs and health.
  3. Pest and Disease Management:

    • Design and apply integrated pest management (IPM) strategies that align with organic regulations.
    • Train staff on identifying pests and diseases and encourage natural control methods. Maintain records of pest and disease incidents and management outcomes.
  4. Compliance and Certification:

    • Ensure all cultivation practices comply with organic certification standards and regulations.
    • Prepare and maintain documentation necessary for organic certification audits.
    • Stay updated on changes in organic farming regulations and best practices.
  5. Sustainability Practices:

    • Implement sustainable farming practices that promote biodiversity and environmental stewardship.
    • Monitor energy, water usage, and materials usage to promote resource efficiency.
    • Develop programs for recycling and waste reduction on the farm.
    • Promote practices that ensure soil health, crop diversity, and effective water management.
  6. Team Management:

    • Recruit, train, and supervise the cultivation team to ensure effective farm operations.
    • Foster a positive work culture and promote teamwork and collaboration.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  7. Financial Management:

    • Prepare budgets for cultivation operations and monitor expenses against projections.
    • Analyze cost-effectiveness of organic practices and suggest improvements.
    • Identify opportunities for reducing costs and increasing profitability.
  8. Research and Development:

    • Stay abreast of organic farming trends, innovations, and research.
    • Experiment with new varieties, practices, and technologies to improve yield and quality.
    • Collaborate with agricultural research institutions for trials and studies.
    • Manage the procurement of seeds, fertilizers, and other essential supplies, ensuring they meet organic certification criteria.
  9. Community Engagement and Education:

    • Build relationships with local organic farming organizations and participate in community activities.
    • Lead workshops and training sessions to educate staff and community members about organic practices.
    • Engage with consumers through farm tours, open days, or local markets.
  10. Reporting and Analysis:

    • Maintain detailed records of farming operations, including yields, costs, and pest incidents.
    • Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of cultivation strategies and adjust accordingly.
    • Provide regular reports to senior management on farm performance and areas for improvement.
