Job Description

The Area Sales Manager will be responsible for driving sales growth and brand presence within a designated geographic territory in the pet food industry. This role involves developing and maintaining relationships with key accounts, distributors, and retailers, while achieving sales targets and contributing to the company’s overall growth strategy. The ideal candidate is a motivated, results-driven professional with a passion for pets and a strong background in sales.
Key Responsibilities

  • Sales and Revenue Growth: Develop and execute strategic sales plans to meet or exceed revenue targets for pet food products within the assigned territory.
  • Account Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, including pet stores, veterinary clinics, and distributors, while identifying and onboarding new accounts.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and consumer preferences in the pet food industry to identify opportunities for growth and product positioning.
  • Promotions and Merchandising: Collaborate with marketing teams to implement promotional campaigns, in-store displays, and product launches to enhance brand visibility and drive sales.
  • Training and Support: Provide product training and support to retail staff and distributors to ensure effective product knowledge and sales techniques.
  • Forecasting and Reporting: Prepare accurate sales forecasts, track performance metrics, and provide regular reports to senior management on sales activities, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Customer Service: Address client inquiries, resolve issues, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction to foster long-term partnerships.
  • Trade Shows and Events: Represent the company at industry trade shows, pet expos, and networking events to promote products and build brand awareness.
  • Compliance: Ensure all sales activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Animal Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of sales experience, preferably in the pet food, pet care, or consumer goods industry.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing key accounts.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze market trends and develop strategic sales plans.
  • Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of pet nutrition, pet care trends, or the pet food industry is a plus.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the assigned territory (up to 50% travel may be required).
  • Passion for pets and a commitment to promoting high-quality pet food products.
